Drawing The Line on Emotions (Being Mad),
By 80sLady "PRG" (NY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Was So Mad! (Albert Whitman Concept Paperbacks) (Paperback)
"I get so mad" - descriptions of things and times when children get mad (being blamed for something they didn't do, having to take a nap when they're not tired, having an "accident" and everyone laughs, etc).
This is a book that every child can relate to. The one part that I did not like was the portion (and picture) when the child is about to hit a cat because it had run across the road (and almost got run over by a car). I did not think that it was appropriate for the author and the illustrator to convey that it is acceptable to punish ill behavior by striking another thing. Parents should talk to their children about feelings of anger and seek alternatives to violent behavior. The illustrations are in black, white and orange. It is very detailed and effectively portrays the feelings of anger, rage and of being mad. It is not a typical bedtime story. I would recommend reading this when a parent/teacher has an ample opportunity to dicuss this topic in depth.

I loved this book 25 years ago!,
By Kristen Bowden (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: I Was So Mad! (Hardcover)
Yes, 25 years ago I fell in love with this great book. I still have the mobile I made as a book report hanging in my office. It is a simple story that captures your heart because chances are you've been so mad, too!

Practical book for young children that addresses anger in a way that children can understand. Great launching point for discussion.
