Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Washburn Manufacturer's Review (April 22, 2009)
The EA36K is a unique--and limited--addition to Washburn's Festival Series. Crafted in gorgeous quilted maple, the EA36K features a mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard and bridge. Grover tuners ensure you stay in tune, and a Fishman Prefix onboard preamp lets you dial in the perfect amplified sound.

A unique addition to Washburn's Festival Series. Click to enlarge.

Dial in the tone you need with onboard Fishman electronics. Click to enlarge.

Slotted soundhole for a great look and less feedback, deep cutaway for high fret access. Click to enlarge.

Washburn Festival Series
Washburn's Festival Series guitars are perfect for amplified acoustic players, offering the tone of an acoustic and the muscle of an electric.

A thin-body acoustic-electric design means less of the booming lows and feedback associated with amplified acoustics, which is great for the stage; and a deep cutaway means high fret access.

Quilted Maple Top, Back and Sides
The EA36K boasts a beautiful, high-quality quilted maple construction offering brilliant, clear tone that's as resonant as the wood is attractive.

A slotted soundhole gives the guitar a modern look, and also helps further reduce feedback. The good looks are rounded out with gold hardware and cream-colored binding on the body, neck and headstock.

Mahogany Neck
Enjoy easy playability with the EA36K's mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard, complete with Washburn's clover inlays.

18:1 Grover Tuning Machines
The 18:1 ratio provides for finer tuning and greater stability. Finer gears provide smoother tuning and a higher degree of backlash elimination.

Translation: you won't be reaching for the tuners too often.

Fishman Prefix Plus T System
Like the rest of the Prefix onboard preamp family, the Prefix Plus-T features ultra-quiet electronics and Volume, Bass, Treble and semi-parametric Contour controls.

In addition to a built-in chromatic tuner, the Prefix Plus-T adds a Brilliance control and a Phase switch and Notch filter to help fight feedback. Get the amplified tone you need, no matter the application.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent guitar, but..., May 25, 2009
By Thom (Midwest, USA) - See all my reviews
I purchased this guitar for under $450.00, which I consider a fair price. The price at Amazon now fluctuates from $348.19 - $799.99.

The guitar comes set up very nicely for playing; intonation is correct, the string action is close to the frets, very nice tone, etc. I have not yet tried the guitar's electronics through an amplifier.

A few things that I don't think should be an issue with a guitar with a "List Price" of $1,099.90:

~ I had to get inside the guitar (by removing the electronics) to vacuum out wood debris (you could hear it rattling around inside).

~ The wood was rough in the slots of the sound-hole cut-outs; I had to sand inside of them (this is definitely something that should have been done at the factory).

~ The wood is very thin in the sound-hole slots; I would have liked to have seen some sort of internal reinforcement there.

~ This guitar has gold-colored Grover tuners (which work very nicely), but it has a silver-colored instrument cable jack. This isn't a big deal, but would it have really cost them that much more to make the jack gold-colored also?

~ The built-in tuner is OK, but not as accurate as I like (I end up using my clip-on tuner usually).

All in all, I'm happy with my purchase, but would have been happier if a little more finishing effort was put forth at the factory...

3.0 out of 5 stars Arrived Broken :( but still sounded good, June 11, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this via Goldbox special for around four hundred.
Sadly, it arrived with the controls on the side broken free from the side of the guitar. The wooden side panel was crushed, so reattachment was not really an option without risking the sound dynamics of the instrument.
Still, it looks very nice and sounded great acoustically. I never did try it electrically since I returned it the day after receiving it.
Also, on that note, the cheapest return shipping via UPS was eighteen dollars and Amazon only refunded 'super saver shipping' of about four dollars. So, I lost money on the return, but was happy I didn't lose the full amount paid for the broken guitar.

It's a high enough risk to purchase a guitar sight/sound unseen, but shipping it seems to really push one's luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plays a beautiful as it looks!, September 13, 2009
By tag (Houston, TX) - See all my reviews
This was a birthday gift for my husband. He has several guitars and would never think about buying one without playing it first, but I thought it was pretty, so I ordered it. He was very impressed as well as everyone who has seen and/or heard it. He's gone on about it so much that I've even ordered a banjo from the same company as a Christmas gift for him! Don't tell. . .
