Excellent EP,

The Washed Up EP by Catch 22 is a great cd, especially for the price. For $4.99 you get 4 songs(actually more, but I'll get into that in a bit) that make this album worthwhile. It all kicks off with Leaving, which is an awesome song with great lyrics and nice music. Next up is Hard to Impress, which is so good, that it even made it over to C22's new album, Alone in a Crowd. Next is their awesome cover of American Pie, which is equal parts ska, punk, and even hardcore. Next up is the final track, called The Death of My Blood is Your Indulgence, but this song is just a joke as there are no real lyrics. Now you may think this is the end of the album but if you fast foward until the 15 minute point or so, you'll get 3 awesome bonus tracks which are live versions of 3 of their best songs. First is On and On and On which is done awesome, followed by an altered version of Kristina She Don't Know I Exist. The song is done hardcore style, and excludes the solos of almost every instrument, but it is still awesome. The album then closes with an awesome live performance of 9mm and a 3 Piece Suit. It's done super fast and so awesome. All in all, pick up this album, you won't regret it, especially for the value.

A bit less than Keasbey Nights,
By "theangryoriental" (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA) - See all my reviews

I realize that Catch 22 will have a slightly different sound now that their lead singer and guitarist have been replaced, but what makes them special is still there. Still has fast, inventive horn melodies. As some of the previous reviewers have mentioned, I miss the soft, acoustic guitar found in Keasbey Nights. The new guitars are good, but it's one step more toward other dime a dozen punk band guitars. The songs are still first rate, though I miss Tomas a bit. The live songs at the end are fantastic, and the cover of American Pie is great. Overall, a bargain, and a must-have of fans of the first album.

Super Dee Dooper,

The songs on this album are great. They have gotten a bit louder than the songs on Keasbey Nights, but they have in no way gone more towards being "noise". The horn part in Hard to Impress is one of my favorite horn parts of theirs, it has certain kind of power and/or oomph, it dominates, or commands. After seeing their live show a little while ago, it seems that a lot of the songs off the upcoming album are going to be like that, which is spiffy. For those who aren't able to figure this out on their own, "The Death of my Blood is Your Indulgence" is a joke, not a serious song. Leaving is okay, but it doesn't seem to do for me what Catch 22 has done with their other songs. Although I liked hearing the three live songs at the end of the CD, the recording quality on them is awful. It sounds as though it were recorded from inside a metal garbage can, or something. The live version of Kristina She Don't Know I Exist has made a lot of people mad, but I find it quite entertaining, especially the hardcore part towards the end. Don't judge the upcoming album by what you hear on here, in addition to the louder songs with the dominant horn parts, they have a few really nice dance songs coming up. All in all, a good EP, I would say it needs to be longer, but then it wouldn't really be an EP...

Nifty EP,

The 4 officialy listed songs on this CD are realy good, but its the 3 live bonus tracks at the end of track 4 that make it really worth buying. They are superior versions of 3 songs on their album Keasbey Nights. The only problems are: the bonus songs are like 14 minutes after the end of the 4th song so you have to press the search button a long time to get to them, and they cut off the last few seconds last bonus song, probubly because the CD was too long.

Different, but still great!,

After hearing and falling in love with Catch 22 and "Keasbey Nights" I was highly anticipating the release of "Washed Up" however I was slightly disappointed. The lyrics are good, but not as deep and capturing as those from their previous release. The music was not at all what I was expecting, its a little more thrashy and loud than what I was previously accustomed to. Not to say that this isnt a great album. It is awesome when musicians slightly change their style from album to album, it creates mystery and variety. I definitely reccomend this album to all punk, ska, and Catch 22 fans. It is a little different then what they have done before, but still has the great Catch 22 evergy. And as a bonus they put live versions of three of my personal favorite songs off of "Keasbey Nights" at the end of track 4 (On & On & On, Kristina, and 9MM). Definitely a must buy.

washed up! is sweet! it's not as good as keasbey nights but i still love it. even though it only has four songs it has 3 live bonous songs at the end, but you have to hit the search button for a pretty long time after the 4th song. Leaving is one of the best songs i've ever heard by catch 22, it mixes outstanding trumpet play with some hardcore gutitar. hard to impress is also amazing. it mixes different but cool trumpet play also with some really hardcore gutitar. the cover of american pie is the best version i've ever heard! that song shows you how much talent they really have. Get washed up! or you'll be missing out!

With a more punkish style than before, this EP is a good example of what Catch 22 is like live and what they will be from now on. They're not as ska as before but the ska is definitely still there. The fourth song is a play on hardcore stuff, don't take it seriously. The first three songs are so good. American Pie is awesome live. At a show I talked to Jeff, the lead singer, and he said that a lot of these CD's got screwed up so that's why u have to wait so long (16:00) to get to the secret songs. Also, they cut off near the end of the third secret song. Anyway, this band is so cool. I hope to God they never sell out, because then everone would sweat them so much. After a show at St. Andrew's (College Park, MD) they just walked around the place like they were part of the crowd > so cool. Blink 182 would probably have body guards or something, the sellouts. Anyway, buy this. It's awesome. Their next CD comes out OCTOBER!

"Keesbey Nights" is probably my favorite ska album. C22 somehow manages to play quite complex horn lines at really fast speeds but the mix of acustic and electirc guitar and the harmony of the vocals really makes the album. "Washed Up" is still good. The new lead guitarist who seems to lean towards more distortion guitar a la "Less Than Jake" looses some of the charm that "Life goes on" or "Christina; she don't no I exist" had. The bonus tracks after the reprehensible "the death of my blood is your indulgence" are great. It is great to hear the new band playing three of the old songs live. I still am waiting for them to come by San Francisco.

this is a different style than Keasby nights, but it is still awesome. the fast beats in all the songs are great, and the live tracks that are on the end of song #4 are great(except that it takes a while to fastforward 16 min). The remake of Amercan pie is awesome. This is truly a great cd.
