From the Back Cover

Your round-trip ticket to the wildest, wackiest, most outrageous people, places, and things the Evergreen State has to offer!

Pay your respects to the man considered the greatest martial artist on (and off) the big screen; the musician who wanted to know, “Are you experienced?”; and a grunge icon immortalized in an Aberdeen muffler shop.

Participate in the world’s shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade; a celebration of slimy slugs; or a festival in honor of the low-calorie, high-protein lentil.

Visit a seventeen-foot-tall neighborhood troll under a bridge; snack on a three-quarter   ton cherry pie; or slide down the handle of the world’s largest Radio Flyer wagon.

Whether you are a born-and-raised Washingtonian or a recent transplant, author Harriet Baskas will have you laughing out loud as she introduces you to the
neighbors you never knew you had and takes you to places you never knew existed—right in your own backyard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really awesome book!, April 14, 2008

This review is from: Washington Curiosities, 2nd: Quirky Characters, Roadside Oddities & Other Offbeat Stuff (Curiosities Series) (Paperback)
I think this book is just fantastic. It's not only full of really quirky places I'd never known before, but there's also a lot of cool facts as well. I didn't know Seattle was the spot of the first gas pump in the USA. Did you know that? I had no clue. And I live here. The author has definitely done her homework here, and a lot of curiosities that I knew about already, have become even more alive to me now. I'm learning how much I didn't know about my beautiful home state.
This book is also really well written. It doesn't feel like some computer-generated list of sites, but it more resembles a personal journal or something. You can feel the excitement and the interest of the author, and it's engaging. There's also phone numbers, addresses, and websites for most of the sites as well, and specialized descriptions. So, she doesn't just say "Bruce Lee's grave is in Seattle", she gives you the address, history, stories, and then tells you how to find the gravesite once you're there.
I can't put it down, honestly. I'm actually on Amazon right now to buy the author's other book about Oregon Curiosities. I'm really hoping the quality is up to par with this book. Totally dig it. Can't wait for family road trips to feel like I'm living in a cheesy 60's B-movie. Good times.

I bought this because I recently took a full time job in Seattle. There are a whole lot of things to do in this town but I wanted to get an idea of the more "quirky" things to see and this book has all the info that anyone would need to find these things!
