Book Description

February 1994
An essential handbook for anyone living in "earthquake country." Although geared for those living in the Pacific Northwest, this book describes in easy-to-understand language what causes earthquakes and tsunamis and how to survive them.

This book, which is a companion to the "Oregon Earthquake Handbook," also includes a unique, easily-accessed "Emergency Information Section" designed to be used AFTER a major quake. The special section gives step-by-step instructions to help you and your family survive even a major quake, as well as any type of natural or human-caused disaster.

About the Author

Vernon Marquez Cope, Ph.D., is a former psychology professor and author of "The Oregon Earthquake Handbook."

His work on earthquake preparedness resulted from the lack of information for the average citizen on understanding and surviving such a disaster. Dr. Cope spent several years researching the information and interviewing geologists, government officials and emergency preparedness personnel in order to produce a book that would serve as a guide for the general public. More than that, his experience and knowledge as a psychologist enabled him to write a book that is now considered a model for effectively informing and helping the public deal with a major catastrophe.

Dr. Cope's "Oregon Earthquake Handbook" became an instant best-seller shortly after its publication, and he gave over 100 presentations and interviews throughout the Pacific Northwest. He has been cited and written about in scores of book reviews and general articles, and his book was required reading for some college classes.

Formerly a long-time resident of Oregon, Dr. Cope is now living in western Pennsylvania.
