Book Description

Prepared by residents and chief residents with senior faculty advisors at the Washington University School of Medicine, this handbook is a current, concise, and easily accessible quick reference on the common problems that a gastroenterologist encounters on a daily basis. It covers both inpatient and outpatient approaches with the same front-lines practicality as the world-famous Washington Manual® of Medical Therapeutics.

The book contains separate symptom-oriented and disease-oriented sections and covers a wide range of acute and chronic problems, including irritable bowel syndrome, acute liver disease, cirrhosis, and pancreatic disorders. A chapter on gastrointestinal procedures is included.

This handbook is also available electronically for handheld computers. See PDA listing for details.

The Washington Manual® is a registered mark belonging to Washington University in St. Louis to which international legal protection applies. The mark is used in this publication by LWW under license from Washington University.

This review is from: The Washington Manual® Gastroenterology Subspecialty Consult: Powered by Skyscape, Inc. (The Washington Manual® Subspecialty Consult Series) (Paperback)
Have skimmed over this guide and it seems to have most of the essentials needed for the rotating resident/med student on a GI service. The approach to specific symptoms (part I) was very well done and has a lot of helpful information. The approach to specific diseases section (part II) was decent but I must say the section on small bowel disorders was extremely sparse and needs to be expanded. For example the author cites many things on the differential dx for small bowel malabsorbtion, but only celiac disease and short bowel syndrome are explained and these only in minimal depth. Would hope 2nd edition will add to this section.
