This is one of the best books you will buy as a medical student or intern. It is a requirement for your pocket. At Barnes-Jewish Hospital they give this to all the interns in July. If you know read it a couple times it will make internship easy...except for the 100 hours a week you will put into the job...Honestly...BUY IT- I would have bought it in medical school if I knew about it.

This book was a lifesaver for me on many occasions and now as a PGY2 I recommend it to all new incoming PGY1 and even sub-i's. The book covers all of the major "fires" you will encounter and need to "put out" (usually on your own). With this book I found that even though I could call for backup, I rarely needed to because all I needed was right there in the book. The most important advice I can give, though, is to read the book from beginning to end the week just before you start Internship. That is the key! Then just carry it with you as a refresher.

I wish I had had this book as an intern. It's a concise, pocket-sized guide covering the essential need-to-know information for interns. I especially liked the sections on cross cover, triage, and internet resources.

A must have for soon-to-be interns.

I highly recommend this book to interns. it covers most of the topics that you may encounter on your internship oncall. it cover the subjects stepwise and you will know what to do next. it is very helpfull if you are alone and nobody around to tell you what to ask or what to order or how to handle the case. it is very easy to use and not time consuming to find a topic fast when you are oncall and time is short.

This book is all about overnight call situations that interns face. I'm an intern this year and I keep it in my pocket along with 2 other books: Sanford Guide and Pocket Medicine by Sabatine. There are plenty of books out there if you want to learn about disease processes and the physiology behind it all, but this is the only one I've found that has *practical* information. For example, tables of common prn meds, and how to approach cross cover issues. Great death note sample also.

This book is very helpful for starting intern year and gives you really good advice for things to do on call. It also has good examples for admit notes, discharge summaries, common calls and common drugs. Great book!

On page 17, the two formulas for creatinine clearance are wrong. Has anyone else noticed this? Also, on page 18, the reticulocyte index formula isn't accurate because it doesn't factor in the maturation factor. Other than that, this is a very useful book.

You are an intern on your first call and you want a good back up for your bloged memory,right!, especially at around, oh say 3 am. When that lovely grey haired know it all nurse call you back to resident reality, from your somber coma, you better sound like you have a clue to what you are doing! My advise to all of you is to go to your friendly neighborhood "book bank" and spend time reading this before you buy this on hearsay as I did!!! It is a cutes-see-tute-see lil book!! Spend your parents money on something a lil more in detail ie "scutmonkey" or InternalMedicine on Call.....Remember read before you buy!

Buy this book if you are a fourth year medical student or intern

This is a great pocket-sized resource packed full of necessary information for the wards...how to write orders, the meaning of abnormal labs, critical care, interpreting EKGs--basically all the essentials of internship are provided in a concise format with references; in an easily readable form written in a very accessible style. Excellent for both the student and the student preparing for internship!
