Breath Taking,

I am a piano teacher and student. I also sang opera for a while. When I played Tu Chiami Una Vita for my piano teacher, we both decided that I should sing it at one of our concerts. My teacher would play the piano and I would sing. We desperatley tried to find the sheet music and no one heard of it. I was astonished that such a gorgeous song was unheard of. It is definately the most beautiful piece of music I have heard, as a music major, that is saying a lot.

I cannot believe that such great music went unnoticed!,

This music, like the movie, was so great, so refreshing and so wonderfully composed I cannot believe it did not get the press recognition it deserved. I shall die before I ever understand why such a great piece of artwork, both the music and film, should go unnoticed, ungraced, and unrespected, while a tacky, plastic, and tasteless film like Titanic should be raved about as it was. This truly indicates the power of film promotion and the guliability of the public.

The movie is good, the music is striking!,

The MUSIC of "Washington Square" is exquisite...charming...stunning...beyond words! I thought the movie of "Washington Square" was well-done, although I must admit to having a preference for the 1949 version called "The Heiress"...I must say, though, that the music for "Washington Square" is what keeps me watching this film again & again, and especially listening to the soundtrack!
It is poignant, lingering, striking, dazzling: the piano & strings are amazing: the singing is incredibly well done! My favorite is "Tu Chiami Una Vita," the beginning version "Catherine & Morris - Tu Chiami Una Vita" and the absolutely exquisite ending version "Please Don't Come Here Again - Tu Chiami Una Vita"...the delightful "L'Absence" and "L'Absence Again" is pleasing as well, haunting and superb! The cute & child-like "The Tale of the String," the superb "Catherine's Nocturne" which is repeated in the final version of "Tu Chiami Una Vita"...amazing! I must say that the music of "Washington Square" is sincerely what won me over: the storyline is fine, it is difficult to watch (with Catherine so inept), but the music just absolutely made the movie for me: even if you don't for the movie at all, this music stands alone: decidedly recommended!

TRAGIC THIS FILM AND IT'S ACCOMPANYING SOUNDTRACK WENT INTO OBSCURITY. IT IS HOPEFUL, YEARNING AND FILLED WITH OVERTURES OF GRIEF, ALL IN ONE. I HAVE NOT HEARD OF THIS COMPOSER BEFORE THIS, BUT I PLAN TO INVESTIGATE HIS OTHER COMPOSITIONS.... THE DUET BETWEEN MORRIS AND CATHERINE IS SO INNOCENT, AND SO HOPEFUL. SO BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, IT MADE ME WEEP.

Transports me to the Washington Square of Old.,

Both my husband and I loved the movie (which we saw on video) and were enthralled by the music. He ran out and bought me the soundtrack for Christmas. In the evening we turn off the living room lights and hold each other in our overstuffed armchair and listen to the beauty of the music. It's good for the soul. We often put the duet on repeat.

Simply Beautiful,

When I first saw Wasington Square I liked the movie but it was the music that really moved me. As an opera singer, I felt I had to get the score to the beautiful "Tu Chiami Una Vita". But to my surprise no one had heard of the song and I discovered that it was written specifically for the movie. To this day I cannot understand how such a beautiful song went unnoticed. The entire soundtrack is very beautiful and relaxing. I think even a person who doesn't like classical music would be affected by the haunting music. It still amazes me that in this day of corny pop songs, beautiful music can still be written and with such emotion.

Melancholy and Aching Music,
By Andrea Rasmussen (Logan, Utah United States) - See all my reviews

This cd contains some of the most poignant and emotional music I have ever heard. The book was good, the movie wonderful, and the music exquisite. I cannot say enough to adequately praise this soundtrack. Everyone who has heard me play it has loved it (although my sisters "beat" me at the end of the movie because of the ending).

While watching the movie I fell in love with the duet, then discovered the soundtrack is full of wonderful, soothing and romantic music I didn't notice during the film. I have had many people ask me about this music when they hear it playing, and have now bought three copies for family and friends.

FROM: Mr. James must be well pleased indeed. This soundtrack is simply superb. I felt romantically haunted by these selections which will do nothing short of transporting one back to the 1850's.
