"This Wasn't Supposed To Happen To Me" remains on my nightstand with my Bible although I have read Dr. Smallwood's book in its entirety. It has become my other constant "reference book". My only sibling, my sister, died a year ago from a ruptured brain aneurysm. I thought "this cannot be happening". She was too young. She was healthy. I had just talked to her. My entire "childhood family" had died. One by one I had buried them. I bought the book and it has helped me so much to go through a healthy grieving process for my sister and also, 42 years after their death, my parents--something I was still not willing to face. It is not just a book to help with grieving the death of a loved one. If you have suffered adversity be it through injury, a job loss, divorce, or any other life-changing adversity that was not in your "plan for life", this book will help you. I bought one for a friend. If you are a fortunate one who has suffered no life-changing adversity, I would recommend your buying this book for a friend. It will be a wonderful gift to him or her.

This is an excellent book for anyone whose life has been changed by events out of their control.

When I read this book, it was like the author was writing just to me. It gave me something to hold onto when I really needed it. This book is powerful.

I purchased this book as a gift. As far as I have been told, this book was straight-forward and impacted the recipient from the first chapter on.

In clear, uncomplicated ways the author expresses her psychological expertise, then there in the middle of it all is God! Excellent for those looking for the spiritual element, but equally useful to those who are not.

I want to put this in the hands of everyone I know, however, I'll be keeping a copy available---for myself.

Dr. Smallwood's book has become my constant companion since the loss of my son 5 months ago. Actually, I refer to it right now as "My" Bible. Using this book, scripture, prayers, and the practical, down to earth, tips that Dr. Smallwood suggests has already helped me on this long road I'm traveling. You will be blessed, uplifted, and comforted by the plight of others that are fellow travelers on this long dark road.

This is an excellent book. It is written so well, you feel like you are a part of it, as you go through what others have gone through , you find you are not alone in what you are going through . I have told many friends and even doctors about this wonderful book. Thank you Bev, for caring and sharing and researching information . This book also helps friends and family understand what you are going through and how to help you deal with your new life ..

When a friend is in a dark place, having suffered a heartache, setback or tragedy, I struggle to figure out what to say and how to help.

I listen, try to be encouraging, and wish I could give them more. Now I can, thanks to Dr. Bev Smallwood. She has written a truly life-changing book.

In addition to offering my prayers and my presence, I can give friends and family members an honest, encouraging and loving guide on how to find their way through times of grief, disappointment and despair.

"This Wasn't Supposed to Happen..." avoids being "preachy" by sharing the stories of real people who faced the worst that life can bring. The stories are amazing.

The entire book is well and warmly written. As a reader, you'll feel the author take your hand as she speaks gently, yet firmly, guiding you to face, and then make, each necessary choice to move into a new state of grace, healing and hope.

This book has the same life changing affect to me as The Road Less Traveled. Dr. Smallwood's compassion for helping people really shows in her writing. This book gives practical and comprehensive steps in recovering from experiences of trauma that are based on research, personal, and professional experiences. She incorporates faith in the recovery process and exposes many false teachings that hinder the recovery process. As she said "It's not what happens to you, it's what happens in you that counts".

As a survivor of trauma, I found Dr. Bev's book to be a road map for how to get through life with a plan to get past being a "victim" and become a "survivor." Her book offers a true plan for recovery.

There were times while reading when I thought, "my gosh she knows exactly what happen to me." Her book is easy to read, easy to understand, and offers a plan which is easy to follow. I'm impressed with Dr. Bev's ability to offer so much useful -- real life -- information in her book.
