Editorial Reviews

In 2002, Recall released W.A.S.P./The Last Command, which contained two albums -- W.A.S.P. (1984, originally released on Capitol) and The Last Command (1985, also originally on Capitol) -- by W.A.S.P. on one compact disc. ~ Gregory McIntosh, All Music Guide

This is a great double disc set.

I jammed that album out like every day for about a year I think when it first came out way back when...on cassette tape.

An absolute must-have 2-CD reissue of W.A.S.P.'s first two albums. No bonus tracks added, simply the original lp's material only. Disc one is their '84 self-titled debut with scorchers like "I Wanna Be Somebody", "L.O.V.E. Machine", "School Daze" and "On Your Knees". Disc two is that album's '85 worthy follow-up with notable cuts like "Wild Child" and "Blind In Texas". Classic metal at it's best.

Since this a two disc set, I'll divide my review into two sections:

W.A.S.P.:

This is a very strong start for the band. "I Wanna Be Somebody" is the first track and grabs you by the throat. Another great highlight is "School Daze." Anyone who spent time in a public school system can relate to it. "L.O.V.E. Machine"

is another great classic. It's very catchy. All the other songs are great, but don't seem to be much different lyrically from other 80's metal bands witht he exception of the last two tracks. "Tormentor" is catchy, but not really that good. "The Torture Never Stops" is a great closer.

The Last Command:

It's a great follow up. In fact, W.A.S.P. takes it up a notch with songs like "Ballcrusher" and "Sex Drive." You'll also find great ones like "Blind in Texas," "The Last Command,"

and "Running Wild In the Streets." Those three manage to catch the power and attitude of the band while at the same time remaing air play friendly.

Overall, it's really a good way to introduce yourself to W.A.S.P.

Go for it!

This is an awesome double cd set of W.A.S.P's first two albums. Both cds are great. It doesnt have the bonus tracks either. Just the original songs from the album. I recommend this to someone who doest have either of them but does want them.

The thing I love most about these two albums is that they are what the are. No hidden meanings. No special message about thinking for myself. Nothing but pure 80s rock. No filler, all killer. This is a take it or leave it kind of band. Dirty rock with lyrics about sex, drugs, rebellion, and more sex. Everyone has at least one guilty pleasure and W.A.S.P. is mine.
This collection is an excellant buy. The first two albums in there original form togther at one low price. The only thing I did not like is the absence of the song "Animal". It appears as the first track on the Peaceville remaster of the first album; however, not on this. As far as the other bonus tracks I could care less. Anyway, Buy It.

Man I love both of these albums! The first one is a little heavier, but 'Last Command' seriously jams. I jammed that album out like every day for about a year I think when it first came out way back when...on cassette tape. On my Kraco 40 watt Perry drug store bought radio. WASP rules! Still good live in concert too if you can catch them. :-)

This is a great double disc set. You get the first two WASP albums at a great price. Both the self titled debut, and The Last Command should be in your metal collection. While both of these albums are not quite as good as The Headless Children, they are still fantastic. I definitely give this set 5 stars.

One of the few bands considered "Hair Metal" I do not hate. This band has a certain ring to it that is catchy, heavy, and primal. They have a very raw sound and it's pure 80's. And the difference between Hair Metal and WASP is that WASP is consistently solid. There is no power ballad, no one hit wonder, just a solid 2 albums with both great and amazing tracks. The opening track from WASP "I Wanna Be Somebody" is simple in lyrics but it kickstarts the album and gives you the atmosphere of what WASP sounds like in a more radio friendly form. Tracks like LOVE Machine, Hellion, and Sleeping in the Fire make this album shine, and you don't feel the sense of filler tracks in between the shining songs. Other tracks like Blind in Texas and Wild Child are both catchy and heavy. Lyrically, it's not the most complex or intricate songwriting, but it is their first 2 albums, and that being said, it's very impressive by any standards. The catchy lyrics and riffs, along with heavy drums and impressive solos make this a truly metal album and should be in any metal fan's collection.
