Book Description

BBC Radio Collections January 5, 2010
This production includes masterly readings, by renowned thespian Paul Schofield, of two substantial works of poetry by T.S. Eliot. The Waste Land, first published in 1922, is one of Eliot's most influential works. The Four Quartets consists of four long poems, first published between 1935 and 1942. They are linked by common themes, and are individually “Burnt Norton,” “East Coker,” “The Dry Salvages” and “Little Gidding.” These are the definitive readings of these legendary poems.

This review is from: The Waste Land and Four Quartets: Two Works of Poetry by T. S. Eliot (BBC Radio Collections) (Audio CD)
I had T. S. Eliot reading The Waste Land, Four Quartets and Prufrock and it was good. Then I found out that BBC had recorded Paul Scofield A Man for All Seasons (Special Edition) reading Eliot and had to have a copy. It does not disappoint. Blew poor T. S. out of the water. As the title indicates the Quartets (based on Beethoven's Spring Quartet #15)are supposed to be verbal music. Scofield manages to capture this quality. Hypnotically beautiful.
