5.0 out of 5 stars Duff McKagan's vocals much better than in the past, February 17, 2009
This review is from: Wasted Heart (EP) (Vinyl) (Vinyl)
Very excellent album! I have the red vinyl version that I play with my new turntable setup, but also purchased the digital version and like them both. Duff doesn't sound like he did as a backup vocalist with GNR, or as lead on "So Fine". His vocals are much better than I have heard in the past. I also have Believe in Me. OF COURSE the band jams, he is a former gunner, so I would expect awesome guitars and drums, but this is a huge improvement over Believe in Me mostly because of Duff's vocals. And of course on vinyl it sounds even better ;o).

5.0 out of 5 stars Duff McKagan's Loaded - and Busy, December 14, 2008

This review is from: Wasted Heart Ep (Audio CD)
While fans may have spent the past few months sitting around waiting for the next incarnation of Velvet Revolver, Duff McKagan has not. The legendary Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver bassist put together his latest lineup of Loaded and went on a brief UK/Euro tour. Life's easier when your band doesn't suffer from lead-singer-itis. And the songs are good too. McKagan and his Seattle-based band put this 5-song EP together to have something to sell on the tour and hold fans off until a full length disc comes out next year. Only 7,000 copies were produced. They play hard rock with a post-punk alt rock sensibility, McKagan switching out his bass for a 6-string and songwriting and lead vocal duties. The fun shows. The CD kicks off with Sleaze Factory, a straight-ahead rocker with good hooks. No More and Executioner's Song are good too, but I especially like IOU. Like Sleaze Factory, IOU's chorus sticks in your head for days after, leading you to replay the entire EP again and again. The last song, Wasted Heart, is a love letter of sorts to his wife. Duff's one to know: It's much better to sing thanks for someone having saved your wasted heart than another observing "You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory". Consider yourself lucky, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars I think Duff should make this band his focus., October 5, 2008
This review is from: Wasted Heart Ep (Audio CD)
This 5 track EP is killer. I have always liked Duff on vocals, and he shines again on this effort. This was released when the band recently toured the UK . The full length album titled 'Sick' is due in '09. If this is any indication , the album is gonna be great. This leaves one to wonder maybe Duff should just make this band his primary focus and say Velvet who ???

When I got this CD, I was a bit skeptical. WOW! It is great! What a CD! It is only 5 songs, but worth every penny. The sound is awesome and the lyrics are really cool. Very well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Duff McKagan's Wasted Heart, October 31, 2008
This review is from: Wasted Heart Ep (Audio CD)
I've grown up with the music of Duff McKagan, from purchasing my first Rock album at the tender age of nine titled "Appetite For Destruction", Duff's music has been a big part of the soundtrack to my life. I've studied his bass playing through the course of my studies and development as a musician and his abilities at drums and guitar have inspired me further. More importantly though, his growth as a singer/songwriter has been the biggest factor, and in my opinion, one of Rock's best kept secrets. This is where the "Wasted Heart" EP has really impressed and inspired me.

Where Loaded's first record "Dark Days" was very much Duff's songwriting on his own, and where he proved that he's far more than just one of the best bass players in Rock, "Wasted Heart" shows that Duff McKagan and company have stepped up their game and when the full length album drops in 2009, it's going to be killer. The riffs, the song structure, the Stones like quality of the weaving guitars between Duff and lead guitarist Mike Squires is outstanding, and the rhythm section of Jeff Rouse and Geoff Reading is equal parts attitude, groove, and bludgeoning. And did I mention that Duff's vocal performance is the best he's turned in yet, not to say that he was a ever a bad singer to start with, because he wasn't.

The "Wasted Heart" EP is a must have for any Guns N' Roses, Velvet Revolver, or Duff McKagan fan anywhere.

Never really cared much for VR. Good live, but the sound never set well with me. I'm liken this though.
