Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Educated. Employed. Existing. Jerome Dickens doesn’t call himself a writer. He prefers the term, Realist. He never fails to put a magnifying glass on the issues that most people forget about. His brash, direct, and blunt approach highlights the realities of life. He believes ideas are always following where you're not looking and intends to share everything he finds. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. The city taught him how to live, the techniques of independence and survival, and the necessity of being true to himself, while everyone around him was constantly searching for the next, “Me.” Some of his influences are his elders, underground music, soulful classics, and social observations. For him, everything must be aligned with truth, no matter the consequence. His writing is equally a bridge between this and his musical favorites MF DOOM and Ghostface Killah, liked because of their rawness for speaking up and not being scared to say what needs to be said. Writing is his outlet, truth, and way of putting claim to what should be said. His writing will pierce your ego, attack your emotions, and drive your intellect. 5.0 out of 5 stars Raw Reality dressed up in Literary Dopeness September 25, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
It has taken me a while to write a review on this book, as words cannot capture all of the emotions that are evoked when reading. "Wasted Talent" captures the essence of life. The ups, the downs, the love, the hate, the REALITY. Dickens does an excellent job at painting a picture, telling a story, pulling you into every literary piece as if it is you who are experiencing what he writes about. Favorite line is "In all seriousness,/I'm predestined/To be the best part of even your day." Indeed, the book is just that GOOD, better yet GREAT. Wasted Talent? I think not.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOO REAL! October 6, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
So glad I made this purchase! Wasted Talent captivates and draws in its reader from the very first page. I found myself re-reading pieces countless times because it was just that real. A few times I was brought to tears because Jerome Dickens' words were that moving- I felt like he had taken them straight from my mouth and found solace in knowing that someone else had felt the same way as I. How refreshing was it to read the work of an artist who wasn't fabricating his writing solely to impress his audience; it was real, raw, and natural and this definitely showed. Loved everything about Wasted Talent. Don't pass this book up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Every line is like a punch in the face. September 9, 2011
Format:Paperback
Seriously. Each line could stand on it's own, provoking more elaborative thoughts within the reader's mind. I read this book and many times said to myself, "You know what? Sometimes i feel the exact same way." Even the way each piece is structured and laid out on the page, adds a certain kick to it. No rhyme schemes to water these words down, either. Just straight, raw, uncompromising thoughts. Sometimes conveying a euphoric feeling and sometimes giving the impression that when he put the pen down, he stepped outside and gave a smile to the world, relieved for the moment. For those who've had those times when you couldn't say it, Jerome Dickens says it for you. Unabashedly, unapologetically, and unyieldingly. Wasted Talent, that with some help from JoVonna Rodrguez, is no longer wasted. Great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars You say Book I say Dialogue August 15, 2011
By Lolita
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Though this is literally a book, I would consider it a form of written dialogue. These pieces make you feel and engage you into a conversation before you even realize you're in one. Not just any conversation but a deep one. This book will bring you back to the real truth that is so hidden in this society today. You will really think and dig deep which these days sad to say not many things do. THANK YOU!!Big ups to Mr. Dickens glad you decided to share your pieces. Highly recommend this book. This is one of those books that will forever be relevant never outdated you can read it over and over through your journey in this thing called life.
