Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3-- These four books, translated from French, are amusing, but the story lines are generally thin and uneven in their development. Illustrations, gentle watercolors by different artists, are of better quality. Butterfingers is confusing, as Andy is not clumsy so much as wild--until a lion tamer teaches him a trick to become more careful. Watch Out for the Turkey is silly and entertaining, by far the best of the four stories. Arthur Walker, in the park to pick flowers, holds a turkey for a man whose hot-air balloon is stuck in a tree. The balloon comes free, catches Arthur and the turkey by a rope, and takes them skyward and over the city. A quietly amusing story, this one is sure to produce giggles. In Looking for a Friend, a dog living alone in the woods is tired of being by himself and searches for a friend. He befriends a variety of animals, eventually staying with man: "Since then, man has been dog's best friend." In The Robot on Vacation , Charlie the robot escapes from Professor Nicholas before being fine-tuned. A light, superficial plot and uneven characterization do little to make this book rise above average. --Hayden E. Atwood, Cape Elizabeth Middle School, Maine
