4.0 out of 5 stars Watch Over Me by Lucy Monroe
I truly enjoyed "Watch Over Me", Lucy Monroe's latest book in her 'Goddard Project Agency' series about Alpha male former mercenary heroes and the women who semi-tame them. 4.0 out of 5 stars Watch Over Me by Lucy Monroe, May 29, 2009

This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
I truly enjoyed "Watch Over Me", Lucy Monroe's latest book in her 'Goddard Project Agency' series about Alpha male former mercenary heroes and the women who semi-tame them. Monroe is one of those authors I count on to deliver a story I'll enjoy, without having to deal with 'too' much reality in the form of death and destruction. She also delivers the heat without fail!

Lana is a genius and a scientist. She's also a bit...well, let's just say there doesn't seem to be much of a filter between her brain and her mouth, and thus social situations aren't exactly her forte. She doesn't consider herself pretty, isn't rail thin, and believes her only asset is her brillant mind. She's a firm believer in empirical evidence and the few experiences she's had with sex and relationships...well, she just can't understand what all the fuss is about. That is, until a hunky stranger shows up in her lab.

Mykola considers himself an underachiever in a family of geniuses, but that's OK with him. He lives for his job as a DEA agent until his last undercover assignment reveals a threat to his sister and the science firm where she works. So he reluctantly leaves the DEA and signs on to the Goddard Project to protect his sister. While touring his sister's workplace, he happens upon a delicious looking female...who's a total nerd...and it appears that turns him on!

How wonderful to read a story about a socially inept, non-physically perfect female. Haven't we all felt that way at one time or another? For me, it's just the latest example of how Monroe writes characters I can relate to in some way, and then makes me care for them and their lives. Her hot bad boy heroes don't hurt either!!

"Watch Over Me" was another winner for me. I read it while on vacation and it was the perfect beach read--not too tense, not too serious, not too long. Just me, my mai tai, the pool, and this book. AHHH.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Lucy Monroe Book, June 1, 2009
By
Judy "book reader" (Cincinnati, ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
Lucy Monroe's Watch Over Me is a compelling book of top notch romance and suspense.

Mykola Chernichenko quits his job at the INS to help protect his sister Elle Gray and lead scientist Dr. Lana Ericson. Myk knew he was going to have trouble with his hard headed sister but he wasn't prepared for his reaction to Lana. She sets all his nerve endings on fire with just a look.

Dr. Lana Ericson is most comfortable working in her lab with her formulas. An alpha male like Mykola is something she sure doesn't see under her microscope. He unsettles her and has her saying exactly what she would like to do with and to him. Mercy...
Lana can't seem to keep a professional distance when Myk is within arms reach.

Myk is willing to make any and all sacrifices to keep Lana and his sister safe. But Lana has become much more then an assignment to him and he is befuddled by her. Women come and go for Mykola however this one he doesn't want to let go.

Trying to stay alive is hard enough for Lana and keeping herself focused on her job is next to impossible with Myk around. Lana hasn't had much life experience and the ones that she has had has made her gun shy.

Lucy Monroe does another fantastic book that will keep you enthralled from beginning to end. The characters are well rounded and compelling. The writing is crisp and flowing. You can't go wrong in this latest book by the talented Lucy Monroe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watch Over Me, October 25, 2009
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
Mykola Chernichenko is the super secret Goddard Project's newest member. He joined solely to save his sister Elle from the Vega Cartel. They want Elle out of the way so they can get to Dr. Lana Ericson who developed enzymes that could change the financial world as we know it. Unfortunately, Lana is as stubborn as she is smart. She's damn sexy, too, and Myk can't keep his hands off of her. Myk needs to keep Lana close to keep her safe. That isn't a problem, but keeping his heart out of the equation might be.

Myk's is very sexy. From his earrings to his bad-boy attitude, he oozes sex appeal. Lana has a lack of social skills and the way she blurts out what she is thinking is often amusing and embarrassing for her. Her obsession with Mickey Mouse is a little extreme, but she is sweet and smart, and the way she wears her lust on her sleeve when it comes to Myk is endearing. Although the danger feels real and it grows throughout the story, it peters off a bit at the end. Watch Over Me is a sensual, exciting story where the heat between Myk and Lana is more than sexual. You can feel the chemistry between them from the first time they meet.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked it, August 30, 2009
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
I really liked the characters. The story was a little too predictable. The chemistry was hot and I really do like alpha males. This wasn't one of my favorites, but I have always been a fan of Lucy Monroe's books.

1.0 out of 5 stars $12 is too much for this book, January 9, 2012
By
AB (Oakland, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
I can't believe that this book costs $12. The plot is conventional, hot guy meets nerdy girl, found nerdy girl irresistible, but the development is horrible and not plausible. An absolutely drop dead undercover hunk, within few minutes meeting the nerdy scientist complete with head to toe nerdy garb, falls madly in love with her .... The writing is too mechanical, the wit is actually juvenile. If you really want to read it, check it out from the library or watch a movie, because at least, there is work going into making a movie and the actors work hard at it. It doesn't seem the author work hard at puting this book together.

3.0 out of 5 stars should've been shorter, September 8, 2010
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
Scientist heroine has hard time filtering her lusty thoughts about hero who's part of special security hired to protect her & her inventions from the hands of the wrong people.

Monroe's latest books have not been as good as her older ones. This one was tepid...the romance & the action-suspense. It just seemed like she prolonged what-could've-been a much shorter (like 100 pages less) book. It would've made the overall book more exciting. Some of the dialogue was superfluous & boring so I skipped these. The love scenes were hot as usual but that's about as good as this book got.

Recommended ONLY for the hot love scenes.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun espionage romance, May 29, 2009
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
In Southern California, Environmental Technology Research and Design (ETRD) research scientist Lana Ericson has a worthy goal to end world hunger. However, a drug kingpin believes she and her work are worth a fortune so he plans to kidnap her. Thus ultra top secret Goddard Project Agency Director Whitmore wants her protected.

ETRD security consultant Elle Grant and head scientist Frank Ingram also are worried for Lana's safety taking the threats seriously. Though he fired Elle from field work, Whit hires her big brother Mykola "Myk" Chernichenko to protect the firm's key scientist. Myk agrees to end his vacation from INS and undercover DEA work to watch over the lab-coated nerd because he fears for his sister's life if unscrupulous thugs make an attempted snatch. As Lana and Myk fall in love, they must outmaneuver a persistent villain who has no qualms about killing innocents.

The latest Chernichenko espionage romance (see THE SPY WHO WANTS ME) is a fun tale as the reflective scientist and the hit first ask questions operative fall in love. The villain is over the top of Space Mountain, but no one will care as the nerd and the bad boy fall in love.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Good, December 21, 2009
By
SHZ (Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
Firstly, the country of origin of these characters is Ukraine, NOT `The Ukraine'. Just like we do not say `The Russia' or `The Canada'. And why on earth is `Baba' written in italics every single time?! It is a word, just like any other. Towards the end of the book this gets particularly bad.

Secondly, the writing is mediocre at best. I am upset to have spent so much money on this book. Admittedly, being Ukrainian, the only reason I bought it was to see what an author would do with a cast of Ukrainian characters. I learnt this was a stupid reason to buy a book.

Now, I realise I am reading a romance novel, and I expect sex. What I did not expect were such clinical descriptions of body parts and sexual acts. It did not seem nice, romantic, exciting, good...whatever. It seemed yucky. Disgusting, even.

The characters were strange. The `heroine' had all the maturity of an eighth grader playing grown-ups, and I really could not understand what the hero saw in her. Her Disney fixation was not `cute' or `quirky', it was just embarrassing.

Seriously, avoid this book. There is amazing romance and romantic suspense out there. This is not it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Okey, July 1, 2009
This review is from: Watch Over Me (Paperback)
I didn't like the woman main character. She was weird. The main man character he was a hunk, really gorgeous and dangerous so I would say that the two main character did not fit very well together. And the love scene could have been more erotic.
