INTRIGUING Mystery/Suspense, August 7, 2010
This review is from: Watch Your Back (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
An INTRIGUING mystery/suspense with a TOUCH of romance...some INTERESTING characters...at first the verbal sparring between Devon and Jayde is ENGAGING and cute...but after a while Jayde becomes a bit ANNOYING with her constant running away, her flying off the handle and not letting Devon explain things...it's DEFINITELY the suspense that keeps me turning the pages...so, IMHO it's just an OKAY read.

Wonderful Mix of Romance and Mystery, July 18, 2010
This review is from: Watch Your Back (Urban Soul Presents) (Paperback)
Devon Mitchell is being haunted by the death of his ex-girlfriend. To get himself together, he goes to his uncle's farm. After being there for a few months, he decides that it's time to get back to reality. After receiving some unsettling news about the art gallery his grandmother left him, he makes a detour to D.C. When he arrives, he is met with opposition from acting gallery director Jayde Seaton. Jayde has a lot of questions and not a lot of answers. She wants to know why someone (Devon) who obviously knows very little about the operations of an art gallery, could come in and steal her promotion. Along with that drama, someone is actually trying to sabotage the gallery. Devon has his hands full trying to get answers about what is going on and who is behind it. While all of this is happening, Jayde and Devon are trying to make sense of their budding attraction. The question is, can their new found relationship withstand the deception, half truths, and family drama?
Watch Your Back by Lisa Y. Watson is an excellent read. There is a wonderful mix of romance and mystery. Watson does a great job of combining the two genres. The plot as well as the primary and secondary characters are very well developed, and the author's writing style flows. Watson also does a great job of knowing how much to reveal and at what times to reveal it to keep you turning the pages. Great read!

Devon Mitchell hasn't been able to stop blaming himself for the death of his ex-girlfriend and put it behind him. Her death continues to haunt him. He escapes the constant media and others who won't leave him alone to heal by going to his uncle's farm to try to put his life back together and to rid himself of the guilt of his ex's death. After receiving some unsettling news about the art gallery his grandmother left him, he makes a detour to D.C., he decides that it's time to get back to reality after being at his uncles for several months. He is met with opposition from acting gallery director Jayde Seaton after he arrives in D.C. Their meeting is laced with drama that continues and even escalates when it is announced that Devon will be the director of the gallery, which is the position that was promised to Jayde. Jayde doesn't take the this news very well and she has lots of questions and not a lot of answers. She wants to know why someone who obviously knows very little about the operations of an art gallery, could come in and steal her promotion and she takes every opportunity to let him know his shortcomings. Jayde doesn't know that someone is actually trying to sabotage the gallery and for Devon all employees are potential suspects until he can eliminated them as being part of the sabotage, that includes Jayde. Devon has his hands full trying to get answers about what is going on and who is behind it, while Jayde and Devon are trying to make sense of their budding attraction. Things escalate even more for Devon goes after Jayde. More importantly, can their new found relationship withstand the deception, half truths, and family drama?

In addition, Lisa also does a great job of knowing how much of the story to reveal and at what times to reveal it to keep you turning the pages. This was a great and enjoyable read! I would love to read a sequel to this novel.
