The Watchers of Space is a great book that is getting hard to find. Having read it long ago, I recommended it to my daughters, 8 and 11. They loved it. The compelling story of a young boy and girl pre-dates the "Magic Treehouse" series, but offers similar adventure, albeit a little (just a little) more advanced. The story mixes sci-fi with fantasy in a seamless fashion. The ending is happy, but not without loss along the way. A good read for young minds.
