Book Description

April 30, 1994
This is widely acknowledged as being one of the most important and informative books ever to appear on the subject of horology. The present work is a facsimile, produced by the original printers of the original publication. For accurate factual information, Baillies' work is as fresh today as it was when first written. It is a proper history covering nearly four centuries, with emphasis on original developments.

About the Author

G.H. Baillie was a consulting engineer who worked in many countries. He became so absorbed in the history of horology that, at one time, he employed three people to search the famous libraries of Europe for original information. He spent much of his life on research into aspects of horology; he was also instrumental in the cataloguing and classifying of the collection of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers. He published several books on horology amongst which Watches and Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World (also published by NAG Press), both first issued in 1929, became classics.
