Book Description

October 28, 2001
Poetry. In WATCHFULNESS, Peter O'Leary delves into arcane, biblical and mystical texts as well as the art of iconic architecture to deliver a new poetry. Here the center is "concealed in concealment" wherewith a new composition can be, in Duncan's powerful phrase, "made loose." Reminiscent of both Robert Duncan's "Passages" and Ronald Johnson's Ark, these verses draw influence from the aether of poesis itself, thus charting a thoroughly contemporary and soulful terrain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dazzling Debut, May 16, 2002

This review is from: Watchfulness (Paperback)
Watchfulness is at once coherent in structure and accomplished in the particulars of its craft, which is a rare achievement in a first book. Peter has learned from poets such as Ronald Johnson and Louis Zukofsky an imagist aesthetic of crystalline condensation; the condensed gists of his verse are not isolated, but embedded in dazzling, architectonic structures of interrelation. Highly Recommended.
