After 12 years, 8 albums, 4 Dove awards, 3 Grammy nominations, and 3 gold records, the members of the hit group Newsboys are beginning to branch out in new directions. The first member to take an adventurous leap is bassist-singer Phil Joel with his debut recording Watching Over You. Newsboys frontman Peter Furler is both producer of this project and partner in the new record label Inpop, which signed Joel as their second act. Watching Over You is a heartfelt rocker, showcasing Joel's impressively developed vocal and songwriting talents. Guitar driven, honest, and reflective, this CD's pop-rock sounds won't blow out the windows, but if played in a car, it may cause the driver to accelerate beyond the speed limit. Though he belts out these songs with rock & roll finesse, there remains a sensitivity that expresses Joel's Christ-centered convictions. He is not being presumptuous in beginning a solo career; in fact, one wonders why he didn't do it sooner. (And for those of you who are fearfully wondering, Phil is not leaving the Newsboys.) --Israel Button

The is Newsboys but then, not. The same wit and sense of fun is in many of the songs, but they have a very personal feeling about them. The title track, "God is Watching Over You" is a terrific song - one that will make you move, smile and think all at once. Many of the songs have that 'get stuck in your head' quality - I've found myself humming them at odd moments. I get the feeling that it is aimed at a very young crowd, but I am 42 and loved it, as did my teens - in fact we've bought 3 copies - one for each of us. Newsboys fans should certainly check it out, other Christian music fans, I think it's worth a look.

Part of the reason I like this Cd so much is because I feel like Phil has given us all a little piece of his heart. The title song, God is Watching Over You, is really great...it makes me want to get up and dance and praise the Lord! Strangely Normal makes me feel that it ok to be a little strange,yet normal at the same time.El Salvador, Fragile and Together are so good it makes me wanna cry.Other tracks like Author of Life, Tonight (Not Fading Away),It's You, My Generation, and Be Number One are fresh and bouncy.Overall this cd is joyful, and clearly Phil Joel has a sound all his own!

This CD is absolutley great; just as good as the Newsboys CDs. I LOVE it. the Music is great, wonderful, very beautiful. Its very inspiring, and I love it! There are no other words to discribe it! :) GET THIS CD!
