This review is from: Watchmen Movie Rorschach Action Figure (Toy)
I have been waiting a long time to get a Rorschach action figure. The original comic book had a section on a proposed Watchmen figure line featuring Rorschach and Night Owl, and as a kid that had me drooling in anticipation. I wanted those toys so badly! Next, I saw the prototype figures for Watchmen figures at the 2000 San Diego Comic Con, and although Rorschach wasn't among them you knew that he would be coming along soon enough. But that figure line was canceled due to complaints by author Alan Moore. I understood and respect his point of view, but I still wish I had those figures!
But at last, here we are. Not exactly the action figures I was hoping for, as they are based on the film adaptation, but it is hard to complain. Of all the Wave 1 figures based on the new "Watchmen" film, this is obviously the figure to get. Not just because it is of Rorschach, but because unlike Nite Owl, Silk Spectre and Ozymandias, Rorschach's costume wasn't changed from the original comic book. This is clearly a collector's figure, and not really meant for play. On the box they even call it a "Collector Action Figure", just so no one misunderstands. It is much more of a plastic statue than anything else, with limited posability. The arms can bend at the elbow and rotate at the shoulder, but the legs are immobile. As far as the sculpting goes, it is perfect. He looks exactly what Rorschach should look like. In the modern era of laser-scanning technology, one expects nothing less. It stands about 6-7 inches high, maybe a little bit more if you include the base. The base, which looks like a vaguely industrial stand, is important, as the figure can't really stand on its own. It attaches in a method I haven't seen before, where you push a peg up from the bottom into the figures foot. You have to be careful, as I almost threw out the little pegs along with the packaging before I realized what they were! There are three spots for the peg, so you have a little choice on positioning although not in pose. They could have done a little more with the figure, like giving you a "Kovacs" head to swap out and a "The End is Nigh" sign-board. (Although you can buy this version as a variant figure.) One of the hands can be replaced with a gripping hand to hold his included grappling gun, but that is about it. For the price it is a bare-bones figure. Not quite the figure I wanted so badly as a kid (and still want!), but it is pretty cool to have a Rorschach figure on my desk menacing my other figures, including the original hero Rorschach was based on, The Question.

Gripe #1, the [lack of] articulation on this figure is ridiculous. Not because I want to create my own kewl "action pose"... I just want the friggin' thing to STAND UP, and with the legs and feet the way they are, it is impossible to get it to stand on its own and look normal, so the base becomes an unfortunate requirement (unless of course you already have pegged stands).
Which leads me to gripe #2, which is the positioning of the pegs on the base. It's a square base (like the one seen in the Doc Manhattan photos) with holes in the center, back edge and front edge, but since the hole is in Rorschach's back (right) foot, there's no way to get him into the center of the base; he's either leaning into the center, or hanging off of the edge. Overall, it's a cool enough looking figure. Not the greatest, but most of my issues with the way it looks are my own, and likely not everybody else's. Paint and colors are good, detail is good, pose is on the stupid side, and the permanently cocked head is a bit annoying, but all-in-all, it's not bad. If I could only just stand it on a flat surface by itself like any other decent figure, I'd be happy.

I was at a store in the mall that had the whole set on sale for I think 10 dollars each I only got this particular figure though its really nice in detail and that's it there is barely any articulation its a pain in the butt to get the hand out and swap it for the gripping hand at home he fell off his stand fell to the floor and since the grip hand can't hold to save its life the gun went under the space of my closet door and since my closet is the messiest place in my room I lost the gun I still like this figure because of its amazing detail but I am now going to cover his peg with glue let it dry over nite and once its dry his foot will go in and stay in.real nice figure I reccomend it to anyone who loves the comics or the movie.PEACE

I was hesitant to get this as a gift for my girlfriend because people were saying it isn't very poseable and usually needs the stand base to stand up. Well they were technically right, BUT that wasn't a huge deal. It wasn't going to be used to fight with GI Joes or anything, it is more for display, collections, or stand alone on a desk or something. It's a pretty cool figure, it looks great, good details, etc. and in my opinion the base actually adds a lot to the figure as a whole. If there's no picture of it, it kind of looks like the roof of a city, or maybe grating from a metal tower. Not sure how to describe it, but it is also up on 4 legs so he is up on a pedestal. It is very Rorschach/Watchman-y and again, looks great and would be a great addition to any figure collection, or for any fans to have sitting on a desk or shelf somewhere.

This is a very nice collector piece. It's good for showcase. I wish it was a bit more posable though.

The model is great, it looks just like Rorschach from the movie and the material is great quality, however I really don't like how you can't get him to stand up on his own, you HAVE to have it on the little base that comes with it, and also that it has very few articulations, it's almost just one pose. Anyway, it's a collector's toy, so you really don't mind it that much but still, it'd be nice to make it do the poses you'd like.

I ordered one(plus nightowl), but 2 came. I kept it thought cause thats cool. And its not a toy, but more of a statue, because the legs are stationary.

I got this Rorschach figure for my bookshelf, and he's a little difficult to balance, but once there looks pretty awesome. I wouldn't give this to a kid to play with as his mobility is seriously lacking, but if you are a nerdy, Watchmen-obsessed person, it's kind of a necessary accessory to your home.

The toy itself is a great collectible and not so much the best for actual play however it is very true to the scale and very realistic making it very awesome, in my opinion.

Rorschach will always be the coolest character from the best graphic novel of all time, unfortunately he could have gotten a better action figure. This action figure is simply for show purposes only. He has very little articulation and barely any poses. His head swivels, his arms can move up, his elbows bend and his legs rotate. While his overall look is very detailed this figure is quite disappointing. The bottom part of his coat "the dress part" is one big block and his legs stick out once the block ends. His waist does not move and his legs do not bend. Back at Comic Con 2008 DC stated that this figure would have a changeable clear mask plates to accommodate the moving fluids in the movie, surprisingly none of those features can be found in this retail version and is just another let down. If you want a Rorschach action figure this is the only one you'll get for a long time, Let's just hope DC decides to release a proper line of Watchmen figures in the future based of the comic and not the movie(Hooded Justice????).
