5.0 out of 5 stars Watchmen Photographic Orgasm
Whew....this is one amazing book. With unfettered access to the Watchmen film set, photographer Clay Enos has captured 'moments' instead of action (which have been captured in the Art of the Film).

3.0 out of 5 stars Big movie, big pictures
Startling, Avedon-esque photos that give you even more ability to marvel at the detail poured into this film. For completists. Very cool image of the Bowie and Jagger pretenders posing.

Whew....this is one amazing book. With unfettered access to the Watchmen film set, photographer Clay Enos has captured 'moments' instead of action (which have been captured in the Art of the Film).

The full page portraits freeze the entire cast of the film from the prostitute to Rorschach and inbetween. When you see the film and notice a character you might like to see in more detail, this is the reference you need.

Surprisingly, the black and white imagery accentuates the nostalgaic nature of the film.

Photographs capture the soul, and Clay Enos has a mitful. May they treat him kindly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Watchmen Portraits - Outstanding Collection, February 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Watchmen: Portraits (Hardcover)
This oversized photo book is one of several Watchmen related books published on the eve of the film's release. It is an amazing collection of black and white photos of the cast from the film. They are not so much photos from the actual film, but of persons who are involved with the film. Nearly 200 pages, all full page photos without text. Most are photos of people, and some photos of props. There is an index which identifies the photos. It is a very cool book, a must for Watchmen fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars Portraits of the Watchmen Crew = Very Stylish, March 12, 2009

Watchmen: Portraits

Quick sidenote: Don't look through this book if you haven't read the graphic novel or watched the movie. There's actually some spoilers throughout, which when you see them are quite fantastic.

I got this book alone with Watchmen: The Art of the Film and Watchmen: The Film Companion on the same day a week before the film came out. I was tempted to look through them, peruse the pages and see what the film had in store. I held off with the latter 2, but I jumped into the Portraits book and devoured it, looking at each picture. What's cool about it is that they don't just showcase the stars of the film, but all the extras in the background and even the stunt doubles and stand ins for the various cast members.

If you love to see the making of a movie in any way imaginable, I suggest getting this film and the other 2 as soon as you can. A great coffee table book for all your friends to see.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, May 13, 2011
This review is from: Watchmen: Portraits (Hardcover)
This book exceeded my expectations. The images, both breathtaking and disturbing do not disappoint. This is not only a great gift for fans of the Watchmen film/books, but also for film and photography buffs in general. Details are everything...Clay's camera captures the little things.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lush Phtography, November 19, 2009
This review is from: Watchmen: Portraits (Hardcover)
The last book is the biggest, and most expensive of the Watchmen Books from Titan, and the most mercurial, as there is no text outside of a one page introduction by Director Zack Snyder. Clay Enos was the official photographer ob the set of the film and this book is the result of his efforts. As the title suggests, this book is devoted to full page, black & white, photos of every character, and every extra in the film. These are high-resolution photos, sometimes of full figures, and sometimes just head-shots...extreme close-up head shots. Often times of people who are not done justice by extreme close-ups. There are no titles or any text on the pages to detract from the art. The back of the book does provide a photo index to give you the name of each character. The black & white makes the book special. It gives a sense of grittiness to the photos that you would not have with color. At $50, this is a book for the true, hardcore fans and collectors.

There's really not much to say other then this book is stunning - The photography is rich, high contrast black and white. The amount of detail in each photo is fantastic and really makes for a dynamic book.

I love the large hard-cover format as well. Its a great piece that would make any coffee table proud.

Well done...

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Collection!, April 20, 2009
This review is from: Watchmen: Portraits (Hardcover)
I'll quickly echo what other reviewers have said: this is a beautiful book full of excellent portrait photos. If you're a fan of photography, regardless of whether you're a fan of Watchmen, you should consider adding this book to your collection. It's worth it.

One caveat: If you're looking for a book full of shots of nothing but the main characters, this is maybe not the book you want. Yes, there are pictures of a majority of the main characters (among them Ozymandias, Nite Owl II, Silk Spectre II, the Comedian, his guns, Rorschach, his grappling gun, etc.) but most of the book is dedicated to the unique background characters that make the environment so rich and vivid, as well as several pictures of crew members and other behind-the-scenes people.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, April 4, 2009
This review is from: Watchmen: Portraits (Hardcover)
Watchmen is a stunning collection of photographs. Even if you're not familiar with the movie or comic book characters, these expertly crafted portraits will haunt you. Enos' ability to capture the 'essence of humanity' in the face is remarkable. A great addition to any photographic library collection.
