5.0 out of 5 stars One Great Movie
My step mom first told me about this movie. She said she saw it when she was a little girl and it was one of her favorites. We could never find it on video, so one day about 7 years ago, it came on television. My step mom told my brother and I to watch it. We loved it! 2.0 out of 5 stars This movie is like being on an acid trip.
Out of the distant corners of my memory came a single catchy song: "Hicocalorum" or something like that. I remembered it was from some old movie that was part live-action and part animation. After years of searching, I've found it, and so have you.
Please note- this movie is bad. Yes, I know you thought it was awesome as a kid, but kids are easily...

We can't wait to watch it with our little step brothers!

I also remember this movie from my childhood. I have been looking for it for years and have finally found it! I can't wait for my son to see this and share in the fun. Out of all the movies I have seen as a child, this is the only one that really stands out in my memory. I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous fun for everyone, October 27, 1999

I remembered this movie from my childhood. For years faded visions of baby swimmers, whale families and great mansions stuck in the back of my mind. For a while I thought it was just a dream but recently, during a conversation with my mother I mentioned it and she remembered it as "The Water Babies". Unfortunately I have been unsucessful tracking it down in my area, However, I recently found and ordered a copy from amazon.com and are eagerly awaiting its arrival! This is a wonderful film and I would highly suggest it to anyone looking for a bit of childhood magic.

Out of the distant corners of my memory came a single catchy song: "Hicocalorum" or something like that. I remembered it was from some old movie that was part live-action and part animation. After years of searching, I've found it, and so have you.
Please note- this movie is bad. Yes, I know you thought it was awesome as a kid, but kids are easily impressed, especially back in '79 when I first saw this.
This movie is wacked. It's hard to understand what most people are saying since the English/Welsh accent is very strong. The plot is pretty convoluted - many things go unexplained and make very little sense. Watching the animated part is like being on some kind of acid trip, but without actually having to take any.
Please note, you are better off leaving this as a childhood memory, rather than buying this DVD and totally messing with your head.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Favorite!!!, December 30, 2001

This was one of my childhood favorites. I can't believe I have found it, and at such a reasonable price. I just watched it last night, and the memories came flooding back! (I am 25 and do not have children yet!) When the day comes that I do have children, The Water Babies will surely be one of their favorites as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless, March 25, 2004

I can still remember watching this movie when it first aired on HBO at a neighbor's house and thinking that it was the best thing I had ever seen. The scene where Tom jumps into dead man's pool was so tense, I still get the goosebumps watching him jump into the foaming water and technologically transforming into a clean and beautiful water baby. I was lucky enough to find a used copy at a book store years ago and my 3-year old daughter and I watch the movie about once a week! The music in this movie is also great! Hicocolorum indeed!

5.0 out of 5 stars High Cockleorum!, December 27, 1999
This review is from: Water Babies [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have been searching for this video for years and I finally found it on Amazon.com! I remember watching this movie as a child and singing along with Thomas, the Water Babies, and their friends! A wonderful journey that children and adults will be led upon as Thomas tries to make his way back home from the magical underwater world.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst kids' movie I have ever seen, September 26, 2011
This review is from: The Water Babies (DVD)
This movie was absolutely terrible.

First, I do not consider human misery "entertaining," least of all for children. The movie basically starts with a woman begging for money for her newborn baby so they won't starve. We are then treated to scenes of people stealing, fighting, and cheating each other, and human excrement being poured over meat for sale, all before we meet the criminals who are literally abusing our hero, Tom.

Yes, this is what Victorian England was actually like. That doesn't make it appropriate for my four year old.

Oh, and did I mention that fully half the movie is NOT animated? I don't know about your kids, but when mine pick out a cartoon, they expect it to actually be a cartoon.

We then follow Tom as his misadventures go so badly that he finally--with a little encouragement--throws himself into a lake, where he is magically transformed into a cartoon water baby. Tom's underwater adventures are decent, if random and rather poorly motivated. Finally he returns to the surface (no longer animated,) is further abused, and finally turns on his attackers and gets them arrested. We then have a completely unbelievable Dickensian happy ending, and discover that a series of mysterious women throughout the movie have actually been the same person--not that this makes any difference, or sense, aside from just being freaky.

Skip this movie. Even Barney the Purple Dinosaur is better.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally found and fantastic!, September 22, 2011

I have been searching for this DVD for months for a friends birthday. As it is from our childhood and it was such a fantastic price I decided to buy a copy for myself also. It is fantastic! The purchase was quick and easy and delivery was really quick considering I am in Australia. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to relive some childhood memories and be able to do the same for a friend. Great purchase would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars looked high and low, August 26, 2011

I've looked everywhere for this movie. As a kid, I was haunted by it, yet watched it whenever i could. Now, I'm going to share it with my girls (and wife whose never seen it). Honestly, I was beginning to wonder if it had actually been a dream or a hallucination, as I've never talked to anyone else that's seen it. It's really an excellent movie, exciting and enchanting. Hope they'll enjoy it as much as I have.
