"Hauntingly melodic and inspiring",
This review is from: Water Birth (Audio CD)
The first time I listened to "Water Birth", I was so taken by it that I cried. The musical harmonius tones of Lee Ellen's voice is so magnificent and full of deep feeling that it has inspired me to record of my own vocal tones. It takes you to the innermost core of your soul. "Lee Ellen, you are truly a muse". I highly recommend this CD.

If you like atmospheric, haunting female vocals, you'll like this singer. The acoustic ambience is reminiscent of Anonymous 4's recordings, but the music is unstructured and improvisational.

Lee Ellen Shoemakers gift of ambiant singing is best heared rather than discribed. What she does with her voice and natural acoustic spaces transends nearly everything you are likely to encounter elsewhere. The sounds wash over you, in hauntingly beautiful waves.

To find words to describe the magic of this music is challenging, because no language can hold the beauty found here. No words can clearly touch the presence of this sound, the miracle of her voice, the sacredness of the music that evolves from nowhere and touches everything. While I have loved music since before I could walk it is rare to find music that moves me the way this does - melodic, haunting, profound... like Home. For me listening to this music is like attending church, a return to an inner sanctuary of Truth where I may remember, recharge and reconnect. She has managed to bring the energy of birthing to a perfected place and opens the way for us to be born into Forever beautifully. Remember. You are a miracle.

I chose this CD to listen and inspire me when I gave birth to my baby this year - which incidently, was a waterbirth. The gorgeous, mystical sounds transported me to just the right mental place I needed to be to ride the waves of contractions naturally. I highly recommend this CD, not just to laboring mothers, but to anyone looking for meditative quality music to enrich their lives.

An extraordinary work in today's music world, this is an excellent relaxation CD - either with a script or without. I recommend this to my pregnant clients to use during the latter part of labor, when there is a "do not disturb" feeling in the air. All who have heard it and used it just love it!

This is an incredible work. The long resonances in the Cistern Chapel turn a solo work into an ethereal chorus of voices that can take you outside yourself.
Like really good fudge, this is rich and complex. Like really good fudge, you can't "eat" it all in one sitting, it overwhelms you with pleasure. I'm not a mystical or "spiritual" person as defined by most but this truly is transcendent music that seems to rise above normal human capabilities. If there were angels and they did sing, it might sound like this.

Water Birth,

I like the concept of the recordings, but it just doesn't happen to be a style of singing that I enjoy. However, I bought one for another friend and she likes it.
