Village life and fantasy...,
By
This review is from: Water Cat (Paperback)
This story is set in England in 1953, the year of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth. Jane and Tom have just moved to Carlingrove, the mining village that their mother grew up in. Jane, the main character of the story, at first does not like Carlingrove, but soon falls under the charms of country, small-town living.
What is the secret of the unusual, water-loving cat that the children find in a stream near their new home? What fantastic mysteries lie hidden in the distant past of Carlingrove? This book manages successfully to combine social realism and fantasy. The story is full of the ordinary flavor of an English country village, and equally full of the exotic charms of folklore come to life. The book is ideal for older children and younger teenagers. |
