About the Author

Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D.

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj (Batman-ge-lij), American citizen, was born in Iran in 1931. He attended school in Scotland, and received his medical training at London University’s St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School. Upon completion of his studies, he had the privilege of being selected as a house doctor in his own medical school. Dr. Batmanghelidj practiced medicine in England before returning to Iran where he helped develop hospitals, and a family charity teaching medical center.

When revolution broke out in 1979, Dr. Batmanghelidj, as a member of a prominent family, was thrown in jail and was slated to be shot. While waiting to be "processed" as a political prisoner in Evin prison, he discovered the healing power of water.

One night, Dr. Batmanghelidj had to treat a fellow prisoner with crippling peptic ulcer pain. With no medications at his disposal, Dr. Batmanghelidj gave him two glasses of water. Within eight minutes, his pain disappeared. He was instructed to drink two glasses of water every three hours. He became absolutely pain-free for the four remaining months he was in prison. Without using any medication, he was cured. This discovery of the medicinal property of water at Evin saved the Doctor's life. The authorities now wanted to be associated with his discovery.

In 31 months of his imprisonment, Dr. Batmanghelidj treated over 3,000 peptic ulcer sufferers with water alone. He conducted extensive research into the medicinal effects of water. He discovered water could prevent, relieve and cure many painful, degenerative diseases. Evin prison proved an "ideal stress laboratory," and despite being offered an earlier release, he chose to stay an extra four months in prison to complete his research into the relationship of dehydration and bleeding peptic ulcer disease. The report of his findings was published as the editorial of the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology in June 1983. The New York Times Science section reported this discovery.

Upon his release in 1982, Dr. Batmanghelidj escaped from Iran and came to America. At "Foundation for the Simple in Medicine" he began research of the effect of chronic unintentional dehydration on the human body. His findings were published in their "Journal of Science in Medicine Simplified" in 1991 and 1992.

His research produced a paradigm shift in the basic science of medicine. As the guest lecturer of an international Cancer Conference, he explained that pain and the degenerative diseases, including cancers, are produced by dehydration in the human body. His article, "Pain: A Need for Paradigm Change," was published in the "Journal of Anticancer Research" in 1987.

For the first time in medical history, at the 3rd Interscience World Conference on Inflammation in 1989, Dr. Batmanghelidj explained that histamine is a neurotransmitter in charge of water regulation and drought-management programs of the body—the medical breakthrough people have been waiting for.

With his radio and TV interviews, Dr. Batmanghelidj is now promoting professional and public awareness of the healing power of water. His book, "Your Body Many Cries for Water," has helped millions of people.

He has written five books in English: "Your Body’s Many Cries for Water," which has been translated into many languages, "How to Deal with Back pain & Rheumatoid Joint Pain"; " ABC of Asthma, Allergies and Lupus"; "Water: for Health, for Healing, for Life" (published by Warner Books) and "Water Cures: Drugs Kill." He as four videotapes, "Cure Pain & Prevent Cancer"; "Dehydration & Cancer"; "Health Miracles in Water & Salt" and "How to Deal with Back Pain.". His most recent article, "Waiting to get Thirsty is to Die Prematurely and Painfully" is published in the Townsend Letters for Doctors and Patients in January, 2003.

More About the Author

"Fereydoon Batmanghelidj, M.D., an internationally renowned researcher, author and advocate of the natural healing power of water, was born in Iran in 1931. He attended Fettes College in Scotland and was a graduate of St. Mary's Hospital Medical School of London University, where he studied under Sir Alexander Fleming, who shared the Nobel Prize for the discovery of penicillin.

Dr. Batmanghelidj practiced medicine in the United Kingdom before returning to Iran where he played a key role in the development of hospitals and medical centers. He also helped establish sport projects for youth in Iran, including The Ice Palace in Tehran, the first ice skating and sports complex in the Middle East.

When the Iranian Revolution broke out in 1979, Dr. Batmanghelidj was placed in the infamous Evin Prison as a political prisoner for two years and seven months. It was there he discovered the healing powers of water. One night, Dr. B. had to treat a fellow prisoner with crippling peptic ulcer pain. With no medications at his disposal, Dr. B. gave him two glasses of water. Within eight minutes, his pain disappeared. He was instructed to drink two glasses of water every three hours and became absolutely pain free for his four remaining months in the prison. Dr. B. successfully treated 3,000 fellow prisoners suffering from stress-induced peptic ulcer disease with water alone. While in prison he conducted extensive research into the medicinal effects of water in preventing and relieving many painful degenerative diseases. Evin proved an ideal "stress laboratory," and despite his being offered an earlier release, Dr. B. chose to stay an extra four months in prison to complete his research into the relationship of dehydration and bleeding peptic ulcer disease. On his release from prison in 1982, Dr. Batmanghelidj escaped from Iran and came to America. At the Foundation for the Simple in Medicine he began to research the effect of chronic unintentional dehydration on the human body. His findings were published in the Foundation's "Journal of Science in Medicine Simplified" in 1991 and 1992. They can be read on the web site www.watercure.com.

Dr. F. Batmaghelidj wrote his first self-help book "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" in 1992, in which he stated that a dry mouth is not a reliable indicator of dehydration. The body signals its water shortage by producing pain. Dehydration actually produces pain and many degenerative diseases, including asthma, arthritis, hypertension, angina, adult-onset diabetes, lupus and multiple sclerosis. Dr. B's message to the world is, "You are not sick, you are thirsty. Don't treat thirst with medication."

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj devoted the last 20 years of his life promoting public awareness of the healing powers of water. He appeared on hundreds of radio and television programs and lectured around the world. He has left a body of valuable works of six books and more than a dozen educational audio and video seminars. His work has created an international community that has embraced the natural healing of the water cure. His ground-breaking book "Your Body's Many Cries for Water" has been translated into 15 languages and continues to inspire readers all over the world.

Dr. F. Batmanghelidj died of complications from pneumonia on November 15, 2004, in Virginia, U.S.A. He was 73."

We live in a country of easy water, yet many drink only diet coke or sports drinks or sugary drinks.

I was so happy to find this resource. It is a natural remedy for many ailments, most of which I cannot afford to obtain prescription medicines to manage. On the water-salt program I have felt 100% better from my mood to my 'former' joint pain. My allergies seem to be subsiding too. As long as the salt intake balances the increased water I have no side effects. It makes perfect sense... like the life-sustaining saline solution in an emergency room!

It is important to know what this book is, which unfortunately the official "book description" does not state.

Pages 1-21 are copies of letters that the author F. Batmanghelidj M.D. wrote to various doctors, Universities, medical organizations, etc. They are emphatic statements informing these groups about the author's documented cases of illness reversal using only clean drinking water and sea salt. These letters are very passionate and direct.

Pages 23-30 contain short descriptions of the 15 most common illnesses/diseases that have chronic dehydration at their root. The information presented in broad-scoped, written for the layperson and lacks detailed science.

Pages 31-217 are letters written by people who have applied F. Batmanghelidj's water cure protocol and have healed their serious health problems. The heading to each letter states, in bold, the health conditions that were positively affected.

Pages 218-226 are supplementary material, such as the About the Author section, index and other resources.

If are looking for how and why the water cure works, this is not the correct book. Read Your Body's Many Cries for Water, the author's original book on the subject. Water Cures: Drugs Kill presents people's accounts of how the water cure worked when other medical approaches did not. As inferred in the author's opening pages, this book is intended to present real-world evidence that chronic dehydration is a world-wide epidemic that can be solved very simply and cheaply - much to the chagrin of the medical establishment and pharmaceutical companies.

Why did the "water doctor" write this book?

I read Dr. Batmanghledg's first book "Your body's many cries for water". It was an excellent book!!!! So I was attracted to the title of this book "Water cures: drugs kill"
Great title!!! But lousy book. It's 100% testimonials...just several pages of his own words...all the testimonials are just "rah rah rah". I mean, it's helpful...but it was a waste of my money...just stick with his first book...

One hundred years ago life was much more simple than it is today. People worked hard and ate good, often home grown meals. They certainly didn't overindulge in high sugar and salt content foods..
Water was mainly the beverage of choice. It was what most people drank to stay alive.
As a nurse I can vouch personally for the goodness of water, and also for the excellence of this book.
Written by a doctor who sort to research into the goodness and health benefits of water and then who choose to inform the public. You will learn much more than I can describe here.I watched a whole scientific seminar by this doctor and was so convicted that I bought the book to send to another nurse in the U.S.
Good information needs to be shared and to be understood. Knowledge is power. Read and let others know the information you will glean for good health.

Please focus on the one purpose of this volume-- to provide the reader with reams of thank you letters sent to the author about cures of specific illnesses (diabetes, obesity, allergies, asthma to name a few) by simply following the author's recommendation of drinking the proper amount of water daily and concomitant measure of sea salt and exercise. It certainly convinced me to increase my MDR resulting in 5 pound weight loss in the first week. I have not lost more weight but have not gained back either after a full month on this regimen. To understand how body dehydration causes different illnesses read his other books. I have most of his books and have learned much of the physiology of illnesses. With national health insurance around the corner (no matter what the supreme court says) and the younger folks being mandated to cough up their income ( I didn't vote for him) taking control of your physical destiny is paramount. It's called self-responsibility. This book outlines how to diminish and cure many illnesses no matter your age. that's the beauty of this...improvement in health no matter how young or old you are. If you don't read it then there is only yourself to blame. After all, why not spend a few bucks on the book instead of another useless app, and then decide to if you want to improve your health by this no-brainer technique. It really is that simple.
