Keeps Hair Out of Eyes Without Tension On Your Head,
By carol irvin "carol irvin" (United States) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Water Gear Lycra Bathing Cap (Misc.)
I have short hair yet despite this hair still gets in my eyes when I swim. I hate bathing caps because they cause tension around my head and in a very short period of time my head hurts. I've tried every headband made to use instead and I end up with the same headache. Finally, I got one of these and they keep the hair out of your eyes and you can't feel this cap on your head. Thus, it produces no tension around your head and thus no ache in your head. This is all that matters to me. I swim fully immersed so don't expect anything to keep my hair dry. I don't expect these to look great on me either as swim gear in general, when it works in performance, usually can't also deliver in the looks department. If you want to swim in comfort with hair out of your eyes and no discomfort though, this is the cap for you.

Perfect for a child,

My daughter is 3 years old and the reason I bought this cap is because she loves to swim but her hair always gets in her eyes, even when I pull it back. This cap is very comfortable for her to wear, it doesn't pull her hair and it doesn't squeeze her head like the rubbery caps but it does keep her hair out of her eyes. I've ordered 2 more!

Quality and Color problems,

The quality is a little low - I guess you get what you pay for, that's why these are so inexpensive. What I received was a regular green cap. Nothing neon about it. I feel misled about the color. Otherwise it was just what I was expecting - I like lycra swim caps because they allow water to flow through and my head doesn't get overheated and it doesn't pull my (long) hair.

Good if you have a big head like me,
This review is from: Water Gear Lycra Bathing Cap (Misc.)
This is a good swim cap if you have a big head. I'm a male and my head circumference is 23 inches. They fit just right and they wont hurt your head. It doesn't protect your hair from getting wet but who cares! :-)

I am glad I found these items in many colors because the swim suit I have is multi color and I like the fact that I can change from week to week. If I forget to add to the laundry, I will still have one to wear that matches. And it is so comfortable to wear and soft and does not make my head sweat.

Ouchless for kids,

This lycra swim cap works great for my two daughters during swim lessons. We use the caps to keep long, thick, straight hair out of my six year old's eyes and long thick curly hair out of my three year old's eyes. I've found it quickest to get their caps on by putting their hair in pony tails first, but the Lycra is stretchy enough to tuck in their loose hair as well without any pain.
Unlike other reviewers who were surprised, I understood Lycra (also known as spandex, see "Lycra" on Wikipedia) would not keep their hair dry. The product description says "not waterproof" but the sellers could have easily added that text more recently. Also, to be fair to those who were surprised about hair getting wet, the product name, at least as of the date of this writing, is "Lycra Bathing Cap." If I were not already familiar with the permeability of Lycra, "bathing cap" would also lead me to believe it was waterproof. It is better described as a "swim" cap. Any swim cap material I encountered other than lycra seems like it would keep hair dry but also causes the kids pain--either because the cap material was too tight on their heads (even adult sizes) or it pulled their hair. I was not at all concerned about their hair getting wet. My main goals were no pain for the kids, ease of putting on, and effectiveness in keeping their long hair out of their eyes. I give this cap five stars on each of these three criteria. The caps are large enough for my adult head, but I have a buzz cut and have no need to keep hair out of my eyes in the pool. I don't know how well the cap would fit on an adult with long or thick hair.

I agree with prior reviewer on size issue. I wear a large hat and the other brands are too tight leaving a band-like burn mark on my for forehead and causing me headaches. this cap is very comfortable.

Lycra bathing caps advantages:
1. easy to put on and take off 2. less fighting with your child 3. doesn't stick together like a latex cap which can be hard to open and needs baby powder to keep it from sticking together 4. less snarling of long hair, getting caught in the cap and pulling 5. younger children can put this cap on themselves (adults have to help with latex or silicone) Lycra bathing cap disadvantages: 1. not as durable as latex or silicone caps 2. stretches alot over time 3. needs more frequent replacement 4. color fades over time 5. more expensive Lycra is NOT designed to keep your hair dry. My final advice...... It is worth the extra money if your child is young and you want them to enjoy swimming.

Smaller than I expected.,

This cap was smaller than I expected. I'm hoping it stretches in the water, because it can barely keep on my hair in (I have medium-long hair). It does serve it's purpose, though. I use lycra because it feels less constricting in the water than silicon, and I get headaches less often while using it. My head also never overheats when using lycra.
Color-wise, since I got the black one, it was... well, black, so no false advertising on the color on my part. All in all, it serves its purpose.

The product stayed firmly on my head but didn't keep my hair dry in the pool. I wanted something that would protect my hair from the drying effects of chlorine. I gave it to a friend who said she needed something she could use as a shower cap.
