5.0 out of 5 stars Slattery goes toe to toe with the world and the world blinks, March 17, 1999

This review is from: Water Heaters Can Fly: Uplifting Tales From Suburbia (Paperback)
Glen Slattery is a domesticized American male and he has the receipts to prove it. With the tenderness of a Union march through Atlanta Slattery sarcasticly critiques the strugles of every man who ever married a woman and a house. Through his lense parade inconsiderate telemarketers and other anxieties. Who else would see themselves in a Home Depot as Livingston in Africa or Teddy Roosevelt on the Amazon? If you ever loved James Thurber, you will adore Glen Slattery. He's a very funny guy and Waterheaters Can Fly is proof positive of that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Slattery's humor is quirky and original - a delicious read., March 5, 1999

This review is from: Water Heaters Can Fly: Uplifting Tales From Suburbia (Paperback)
Water Heaters Can Fly is a laugh a minute. I couldn't put the book down. Slattery's wry observations on life in burbs are just this side of surreal and laced with unexpected historical, literary and pop references that are hilarious. Savor the book an essay at a time, or breeze through the whole thing in one sitting. It's a bright, delicious read -- better than TV! Slattery is a true original, a guy that anyone who has been rudely awakened to the reality behind the American Dream can easily identify with. Treat yourself to this quirky little book or give it to a friend. I suspect we'll be hearing a lot more from Glen Slattery.
