This review is from: Water Mills of the Missouri Ozarks (Paperback)
This book is a wonderful collaborative project written and illustrated by two professors from Southeast Missouri State University. Jake Wells, a talented watercolor artist, created the artwork in this collection. Many water mills in the Missouri Ozarks, some no longer standing, are captured in these watercolor paintings. Mr. Wells's mastery of this medium is evident in every piece in the book. It is the artwork that makes you pick the book up and the writing that helps you understand the importance of these water mills in the history of the area. Dr. George G. Suggs, Jr. wrote the accompanying text of this book. His vignettes of the mills and the brief history explaining the historical significance of these mills, allows the reader to better understand the work of Jake Wells and gives insight to his paintings. Anyone interested who is interested in the Missouri Ozarks, history, watercolor painting, water mills, and work from SEMO University should be interested in this book.
