Mysterious, Romantic, Suspenseful: Absolutely Stunning,
By E.L. Cruz (Mission Viejo, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Water Nymph (Hardcover)
THE WATER NYMPH is Michele Jaffe's second book in the Arboretti series. This one takes place in England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Crispin Foscari, the dashing Earl of Sandal, has been framed and Queen Elizabeth has given him only a few weeks to solve the mystery and clear his name. The beautiful Sophie Champion has been simultaneously investigating the murder of her godfather. Never did she imagine that she would be swept into a world of intrigue, deception, and sizzling passion after meeting the Earl of Sandal and becoming involved in their entwining mysteries. This book blew me away. Plain and simple. I never knew that mystery could be seamlessly woven into the intricate folds of romance to create a passionate, suspenseful, and touching love story. Although this story possesses all the classic romantic elements like love lost, love gained, sex and suspense, this romance is much more complex: it takes all these elements and increases them tenfold to create a romance like none other. The chemistry between Crispin and Sophie is undeniable. The mystery surrounding them is electrifying. The hot love scenes are hypnotizing. The beautiful backdrop of Crispin's exotic hanging garden is breathtaking. This book is worth far more than 5 stars. Not only does it follow in the magnificent footsteps of THE STARGAZER, but the ending is so spectacular that you'll be left yearning for the story to go on forever.

Captivating and Sexy,
By Constant Reader (Los Osos, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Water Nymph (Hardcover)
During the Elizabethan Age, Crispin Foscari and Sophie Champion first meet over a dead body. Crispin is there as an agent of the Queen and Sophie is there because she thinks the dead man is a link to the death of her beloved foster father. Although Sophie is dressed as a man (which allows her to move about the City freely). Crispin immediately sees through her disguise. He is beguiled even though he has been a lover to many, many women. The paths of Sophie and Crispin cross again and again and each time the sexual tension increases. The love scenes in this book are extraordinary and you will probably never look at peach (yes, the fruit) in the same way again. Through many twists, turns and often comedic encounters, Sophie and Crispin each come to the same conclusion which solves the mystery of more than one murder. Crispin plays a number of roles and it is a guess which one he is playing at any given time. I suspect that the author will continue this series with at least one book about the cousins who are introduced late in "The Water Nymph". It is not necessary to read the prequel to " The Water Nymph", which is "The Stargazer", in order to enjoy "The Water Nymph"

The water Nymph,

Very different ! and i was pleased with that fact. it definitely isn't the usual romance but that's why i liked it .. even though the plot was unbelievable, it was fun. the characters were very interesting and a lot of great and funny banter between them. i usually read romances in the realm of catherine coulter, jude deveraux .. each of these author's style is very different .. and now Jaffe is def. on my list .. ... the only other thing i wished it had was more of a relationshipo between the couple.. they hardly talked of stuff other than the murder .. great reading.

I really enjoyed The Stargazer when it came out, so I was really happy when Jaffe continued with the characters in the Water Nymph, mainly Crispin. I loved this book, even more than I did the Stargazer and would recommend it for anyone who enjoys a very hot, steamy, sexy romance. Sophie and Crispin had a wonderful relationship, and at times I would laugh outloud at what they said to one another.

Crispin Foscari, the Earl of Sandal, has 14 days to clear his name as Queen Elizabeth's master spy or be charged with treason. Sophie Champion is investigating the death of the man who was known to the Ton as her godfather. Their paths meet at the feet of a murdered man who may have had information for them both. Now the notorious Earl of Scandal and the mysterious Siren must combine forces to solve the murder or find themselves arrested.Once again, Ms. Jaffe has delivered a rousing adventure in the style of Amanda Quick or Stephanie Laurens. Action, adventure, mystery, romance, and humor can all be found within these pages. And some very erotic love scenes. This book and its predecessor, THE STARGAZER, has whet my appetite for more tales of the Arboretti, particularly Lawrence.

Fabulous summer read!,
This review is from: The Water Nymph (Hardcover)
I thought Jaffe's first book was great, but I loved Water Nymph even more. Jaffe really seems to be coming into her own as a writer -- all of the promise of Stargazer is fully realized in this fabulous romance/mystery. Sophie is a real heroine, not some cookie cutter mannequin like you'll find in a lot of romances, and the other characters have similar depth and appeal. The plot is full of fun twists and lots of historical detail, not to mention some very steamy liasons between Sophie and Crispin. All in all, a truly wonderful read. Can't wait for the next Arboretti tale.

This is the first book by Ms. Jaffe that I have read, and it was so good, that I am going to find her other book, The Stargazer, next. Sophie, the heroine, is a smart strong woman that goes to investigate what she suspects is the murder of her godfather. Unknown to her, she is being framed for numerous murders, her investigation leads her to become entangled with a master spy, Crispin Foscari, and her life is in danger. The book is a fun mystery with secondary characters that make you wonder if there is a sequel to follow. Be warned, the love scenes are steamy! |
