From the Back Cover

Bring the natural beauty of water into your own home landscape

Water Works presents a wellspring of ideas and techniques for incorporating water features into your home landscape. Imaginative, expert advice from gardening gurus Maureen Gilmer and Michael Glassman makes your desired water features achievable in every environment, from small city spaces to large country estates. Gloriously illustrated with on-site photographs by award-winning photographer Mick Hales, these colorful pages show how water--tranquil, sensuous, or playful--can set the tone for your entire landscape.

In this fascinating text, the authors explore how water functions--specifically, how it works in a given landscape to solve problems and to enhance difficult environmental challenges. Beginning chapters are devoted to the natural waterfall, pool, and streambed, which showcase water's working role in the wild and its realistic adaptations in gardens. Subsequent chapters describe how water can work to transform a dull outdoor space into a sculpted work of art, including options for easy-to-install, aesthetically pleasing, self-contained fountains you can do yourself. Final chapters leap into the depths of pools and spas, where water not only enriches the visual landscape but stimulates your body and spirit as well.

With specific planting recommendations for a variety of water sites, as well as important design, mechanical, safety, and supply-ordering information, this unique book offers homeowners, landscapers, and builders the tools necessary for creating a fluid landscape from any existing garden environment.

Features include:

  • Two hundred stunning color photographs
  • Specific planting recommendations for every water site
  • In-depth coverage of spas and pools, the hottest landscaping trend

Maureen is a child of California who entered horticulture at age 19. Thirty years later she has risen to success in garden media. She's written 18 books on plants, gardens and design. She's also a columnist syndicated by United Media and writes for various magazines. Since moving to Palm Springs in 2002, she's fallen in love with cacti and succulents as well as other desert plants that are the salvation of water stressed communities. Mo's latest releases are the first two books of the fiction series featuring main character, Allison Keppler family investigator. Walls and Altamont are exciting forays into little known realms of California, on sale as eBook novels at the Kindle Store.

Maureen also writes autobiographical titles featuring two upcoming books:

Jumping the Fence - A Legacy of Race and Family Secrets In Antebellum New Orleans Through the Era of Jim Crow.

When Mo is not in the garden or at the computer, she's on her quarter horse exploring the back country of Southern California.
