Using the same principles that govern the dynamics of a boat in water, the WaterRower Club is outfitted with a "water flywheel" that consists of two paddles in an enclosed tank of water that provide smooth, quiet resistance, just like the paddles in an actual body of water. As a result, the machine has no moving parts that can wear out over time (even the recoil belt and pulleys don't require lubricating or maintaining). More significantly, the water tank and flywheel create a self-regulating resistance system that eliminates the need for a motor. As with real rowing, when you paddle faster, the increased drag provides more resistance. When you paddle slower, the resistance is less intense. The only limit to how fast you can row is your strength and your ability to overcome drag. And unlike conventional rowing machines, which tend to be jerky and jarring, the WaterRower Club is remarkably smooth and fluid.
From a fitness perspective, the WaterRower Club works 84 percent of your muscle mass, helping tone and strengthen your muscles while burning far more calories than most other aerobic machines. The exercise is also low impact, as it removes all the body weight from the ankles, knees, and hips, but still moves the limbs and joints through a full range of motion--from completely extended to completely contracted.

Okay I'm not a big sports fan. Actually I hate running, swimming etc. I'm working on a computer all day and recently my back and left arm started to hurt. Doctor's verdict was not a surprise: "get some exercice, doh!"
I just needed to get some strength in my back. After looking at different solutions, none of which I really liked because I'm lazy, I tried a water rower at a local gym. Finally something that didn't involve running, or jumping around like a monkey all over the place. The price of the gym is almost that of a WaterRower, but then the ones they have aren't always available, and I don't like the cardio training stuff for a change (yeah I know cardio is good, but I'm not obese and I can still climb 5 floors with groceries without getting exhausted). So anyways, I purchased this WaterRower because: 1) by trying one out I found water rowers are in fact a complete workout: almost every muscle and joint is put to work (legs, torso, arms, back, neck), 2) I don't like to pay to go to gym, 3) I can watch movies while rowing, 4) it's virtually silent: the wooden structure has no vibrations (unlike metal frame rowers), and the "swoosh" noise of the water is very low (unlike fan-rowers) and actually very relaxing (or I'm easily relaxed). WaterRowers come in two boxes (super easy to assemble), and delivery time is about 10 days (no matter if you paid for a 2-day delivery, it goes ground, not air). If you buy one of these, learn how to use it with someone who knows: there's the right way and the wrong way of using a rower. You can also find some useful advice from pros on youtube. Enjoy.
