This book is an exciting exploration into the possibilies associated with extending your watercolour skills. It covers a wide range of techniques using many and varied items that I would never contemplated (e.g. painting over stretched gauze). Some of the products are not clearly explained, however I'm sure that can be overcome using the email address provided.

I'm always on the lookout for books that inspire me to experiment with new techniques that are relatively easy to accomplish. This book certainly meets all criteria; it will serve me well. It showcases styles and techniques of various artists in an easy to understand language with more detail on techniques at the back of the book. I would, however, have enjoyed more chapters on the more abstract approaches to watercolor painting rather than the more traditional methods which the book covers more than adequately.

I just got this book today and can't put it down! The pictures take your breath away. I can't wait to try some of the ideas I garnered from this book. I do wish there had been more information on the paints used, but this book is worth every penny.... What an inspirational book!

One of the best watercolor books I have used. Knowledgeable, well written. Great organization. Love the spiral bound format--you can keep it flat while you are working.

I enjoy any watercolour book that seeks to take the use of the medium further than traditional uses. This book does that and more, with clear explanations on how to use other materials in combination with watercolour without being prescriptive. Many ideas for art works have been sparked by this book. The only issue for me is the use of American brand names on products - makes the book less universal.

I now own all three of Karlyn's books and they are what I'd dash in to rescue if my house were burning down. She teaches and she includes other talented teachers for such a variety of creativity. Not your "do this, do that" instruction book, but more suggestions allowing the painter to be far more creative than those.
Her art work is superb as is that of all the other artists.
I was not surprised to see her first two books, which I am so glad I own, to jump in price. I'll never sell mine!

This is by far the most creative book I have read! I would recommend
it to anyone who is trying to improve their background work.

She is fun and excellant teacher. She always has something new to try and
very clear in her direction.

Let me just say that I LOVE Karlyn Holman's work, and this book is filled with her artwork. She has an arsenal of techniques that you won't find in other books. Spontaneity says it all. She works on wet paper and allows the watercolor to move about and THEN you work with and develop what happens on the page.

I return to this book time and time again for inspiration, and to remind myself of her techniques. Some of her supplies are difficult to find if you live in a rural area, but are worth the effort to purchase. Her playful approach to painting is refreshing!

This is a wonderful book. I am so happy I bought it - one of the best. Maybe the best! The exercises are so exciting and the results are inspiring. A must for every water colorist's library.
