Book Description

Waterfall Lovers Guide March 2006
A comprehensive field guide to viewing more than 300 waterfalls in northern California—from the Oregon border to the mountain ranges south of the Bay Area • Waterfalls reached by car, on foot, or by canoe or raft • Falls rated from one to five stars for their appeal • At-a-glance table for selecting waterfalls by scenic rating, form, how to access, best season, and waterfall type • Organized according to highway routes and popular day trip or vacation itineraries in each region On the road and seeking prime waterfall drive-up views? Feeling like a short stroll or longer hike to bask in a refreshing spray up close? Looking for a beautiful backdrop for a family picnic? Waterfall Lover’s Guide to Northern California will tell you where to find the falls that fit the occasion.

To help you select, each waterfall is keyed for accessibility by car, on foot, by canoe, or raft, and rated for magnitude and aesthetic value. The Danielssons note which falls can be seen from the road, cast a rainbow from their base, pour directly into the Pacific Ocean, or spin wheels of water along their flow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! This guide has already led me to some cool waterfalls., May 4, 2006
This review is from: Waterfall Lover's Guide Northern California: More Than 300 Waterfalls from the North Coast to the Southern Sierra (Paperback)
This guide is now my gateway to weekend hikes. What's great about it is that it points to waterfalls close to my home in Berkeley, CA. I had no idea there were so many waterfals within 50 miles of where I live. Already, this book has led me to Brooks Falls in San Pedro Park, Castle Rock Falls in Castle Rock Park and several falls in Big Basin Park. The directions are easy to follow. Actually, I've been in these parks before and missed the falls. Duh! I can't wait to use it this summer when I head up to the Sierras. The lists of highest, most beautiful, etc., falls in the back are good, too. I'm going to take the authors' advice and do a Sonora waterfall road trip, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring!, May 11, 2006

This review is from: Waterfall Lover's Guide Northern California: More Than 300 Waterfalls from the North Coast to the Southern Sierra (Paperback)
This is an excellent guide to the astonishing number and variety of waterfalls in northern California. For those of you living in this region of the country, you truly have an embarrassment of riches right at your doorstep.

The authors traveled over 8,000 miles, crisscrossing California from the northern coast to the Bay area to Yosemite, visiting each waterfall personally. A huge amount of work went into creating this book, and it shows. Each waterfall is categorized by type, difficulty and access, then given a rating for quality, from "uninspiring" to "exceptional." There are maps, descriptions, history and photos galore. An especially useful section is the appendix of "fun lists," including Most Beautiful Waterfalls (Burney Falls, Alamere Falls, Vernal Falls, for example), Best Waterfalls to Visit with Kids and Best Unknown or Remote Waterfalls.

If this book doesn't inspire you to get off your duff and into the woods, nothing will!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love the outdoors, you need this guide!, May 10, 2006
This review is from: Waterfall Lover's Guide Northern California: More Than 300 Waterfalls from the North Coast to the Southern Sierra (Paperback)
I personally own this book and find it very informative. The pictures are amazing. I should know, one of my photos is in this book and I have personally met the authors. They did an excellent job of describing our waterfall and how to get to it. Although if you find it on your own, you will be tresspassing, but the authors explain that as well as how to contact us for a tour. (My husband and I run tours through the Sutter Buttes)
I am an avid lover of waterfalls and a photographer. One of my favorite things to photograph is waterfalls, so I plan on using this guide in the future and will pass along the information to my photography professor for new places to have photo workshops because he is always looking. If you are interested in hiking, biking, camping, etc. you will want to buy this book. I am even going to purchase several to have them available to our hikers. Most of our hikers are always looking for new places to explore and this book is full of them and well written.
