Nice black ink; not for 2-sided writing on bad paper
This is a medium-dark black ink. Its consistency is a bit thinner than Pelikan/Cross Black and Noodler's (also misspelled as Noodlers) Black. Waterman Black feels good during writing. It is not good for two-sided writing on bad paper. It is not very water-resistant, and it is not safe for writing checks or signing important documents.

Dark black ink, but not for bad paper
This black ink behaves well and looks good on good paper. However, it prints right through bad paper, and marks in this ink on bad paper expand quite a bit. This ink is not very water-resistant, and it is not safe for writing checks.

This ink is a medium-dark black ink, about the same hue and shade as today's Sheaffer Skrip Black. Waterman Black's consistency is like Sheaffer Skrip Black, a little bit thinner than Pelikan/Cross Black and Noodler's (sometimes mistakenly spelled Noodlers) Black. Waterman Black is not good for two-sided writing on bad paper. It is popular among fountain pen enthusiasts. It is not very water-resistant, and it is not safe for writing checks or signing important documents.
