Product Description

BEEFSTEAK TOMATO: The beefsteak tomato is one of the largest tomato cultivars, with some varieties weighing in at over 2 pounds per tomato. This meaty tomato is grown in a rainbow of colors, from vibrant red to pale yellow to purple-black. Rather than maintaining a perfectly spherical shape as it develops, the beefsteak tomato takes on a decided kidney-bean shape, spreading out to the sides. The beefsteak tomato is one of the slowest-maturing tomatoes, with the largest beefsteak cultivars taking up to 90 days to produce ripe fruit. Typically, the beefsteak tomato vine will continue to produce and set fruit until the first frost.

Watermelon Beefsteak Tomato - HEIRLOOM. Pink tomato. 85 days. An amazingly big and meaty beefsteak. Some weigh 2 lbs. and more. The seed cavities are tiny, and the centers are solid with firm, bright red flesh. Very impressive. Pink-skinned tomatoes occur as a result of a clear skin over red flesh. (Ordinary red tomatoes have yellow skin over red flesh.) When ripe fruits retain green pigment, tomatoes take on purple and brownish hues.

100% germination... I planted 26 and 26 sprouted. I planted 2 (3 in 2 of them) per seedling pot, so I have 12 healthy looking plants. Can't wait until I have some (big) tomatoes!

I thought I'd test these by putting a single seed in a cup with some dirt and water (I have a fluorescent lamp specifically made for starting plants indoors). To my surprise, the single seed I planted sprouted within the week and is growing now. I won't be able to put any plants outside for another 4-5 months so I guess I'll have to try and grow this one strictly indoors. But now I know come spring that these will definitely grow!
