I've been using a Waterpik for many years. The model I have been using is the Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser. It's been excellent for me and is still going strong. I actually still prefer the older WP-100 over this newer model in spite of the additioal features that this model has. I had the opportunity to test this new Waterpik Aquarius (Model WP-660C) and am very happy with the water flossing capability of it but the lightweight design is not reassuring. I also do not like the holder for the handle as well as the WP-100 nor the tube storage area. It's more difficult to get the handle into the holder and the tube doesn't nestle into the storage area as easily. A new user of this may not be as bothered by this as I am. Having used both, this is just not better than the older model in the areas I discuss.

The Waterpik Aquarius Model WP-660C has a few new features that the older Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser Model WP-100C does not have:

➤ The WaterPik Aquarius briefly pauses at 30 seconds and 60 seconds to help you pace your flossing
➤ A new massage feature invigorates your gums with a hydro-pulse massage action.
➤ Storage for 2 tips is under the lid, between the reservoir and body of the WaterPik.

This model is small enough to fit on your bathroom counter without taking up too much space.

➤ 4.5" deep (5" when including the bulge of the power cord strain relief) x 5.5" wide x 8" tall
➤ The footprint is 4 3/4" x 3 3/4"
➤ Power cord is 53" long and has a polarized plug.
➤ The unit operates on 120V, 60Hz only.
➤ The coiled hose extends to a max of 34"

Operation is pretty quiet, all things considered.

UPDATE OCT '14: The Aquarius has dropped significantly in price since my original review, and is actually slightly cheaper now than the older Ultra. So, with prices so comparable, which unit should you buy? Unless you're really in love with the updated look of the Aquarius, the Ultra still remains the better choice for the reasons I mention below. Also take a look at the video in the "Most Helpful Favorable Review," where you can really see the cheap construction of the Aquarius, and how sloppily the hose holsters into the unit compared to the Ultra. This sort of negates its one advantage--the cleaner-looking design--and you'll be wrangling to holster that hose on a daily basis. No thanks!

ORIGINAL REVIEW: Let me not waste your time and cut right to the chase: if you're thinking about buying your first Waterpik flosser--or wondering if it's time to upgrade your Ultra model--there's only one reason to consider the pricey WP-660 Aquarius: it looks nicer and more modern than the now dated design of the Ultra. So if appearance isn't important to you, stop reading right here and just go buy the cheaper Ultra, which (as I'll get to in a moment) is better in just about every other way.

As it so happens, an attractive, modern design IS important to me, especially in an appliance that I'm going to look at all the time in my bathroom. But even in this regard I'd say the Aquarius is good but not great. It is definitely NOT an improvement in design that will have you looking past its ergonomic flaws vs. the Ultra.

First, the on/off water flow switch is less user friendly in operation than the on/off button on the Ultra.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
If you don't have one of these or don't have a similar product, make a note to get one in the very near future. You will not regret that decision.

To fully understand how I arrive at this evaluation, it helps to understand my experience with these devices. I do have a basis for comparison.

Years ago, I bought a competing brand (Sunbeam, if I recall correctly) of a dental irrigation system. It cost much less than the Waterpik equivalent. But as the old adage goes, you get what you pay for. That system worked OK, and I got some cleaning from it. But I was underwhelmed by what it actually did. When it failed after a couple of years, I decided to try a Waterpik unit.

Why did I decide to give this process another chance? Because several dentists (including one who was a random seat mate on a jet flight) told me they personally do this and they recommend it as part of good dental care. When I countered with the lame results I got, every one of them said they didn't know about other brands but Waterpik does a fantastic job.

My experience with Waterpik totally validated what they said. The very first time I tried the Waterpik system, I was astounded at what it did. The experience with this product vs. its predecessor was like night vs. day.

The Waterpik unit operates on a totally different philosophy, and it got my teeth clean. I could feel that with my tongue; no rough feeling, just as smooth as could be.

Subsequent visits to the dentist for cleaning revealed that, unlike the other unit, it even removed plaque below the gum line. Each visit to the dentist was characterized by improved margins, too. Essentially, my dental age was receding while my gums were advancing. Normally, it's the other way around.
