More Effective and Comfortable Than Floss
Finally, there is an easier, more effective alternative to string floss: the Waterpik Cordless Plus Water Flosser WP 450. The WP 450 is ideal for those who don't like to floss, as well as for anyone with braces, implants, crowns, bridges, or periodontal pockets. Water flossing for about a minute a day conveniently and comfortably removes up to 99.9% of plaque from treated areas and gently massages the gums to improve overall oral health. The WP 450 is clinically proven to be up to twice as effective as string floss at improving gum health, and three times as effective as string floss for cleaning plaque and debris around braces.

Four Unique Tips Clean in Specialized Ways
Offering four unique tips: the Plaque Seeker Tip, the Classic Jet Tip, the Orthodontic Tip, and the Tongue Cleaner, the WP 450 thoroughly cleans your whole mouth.

The Plaque Seeker Tip removes plaque in hard-to-reach areas around implants, crowns, bridges and other dental work. For healthier gums, the Classic Jet Tip reaches below the gumline to keep your mouth healthy.

Those who wear braces will appreciate the Orthodontic Tip--it's three times as effective as floss when it comes to removing plaque around braces. And the Tongue Cleaner removes bacteria from your tongue to help freshen breath.

Dual Water Pressure Control System
With the WP 450's dual water pressure control system, you can personalize your water pressure intensity. Choose either a gentle or more powerful pressure to meet your needs. The WP 450 uses a unique combination of water pressure and pulsations to massage and stimulate gums, removing plaque deep between teeth and below the gumline where traditional brushing and flossing can't reach.

Rechargeable Design Provides Flexibility
The cordless, rechargeable design of this WP 450 lets you walk away from the charger for maximum mobility and convenience. Never worry about batteries running out. Simply recharge the unit between uses. In addition, the WP 450's improved shape takes up less space on the bathroom countertop, and an advanced, ergonomic handle with non-slip grip fits securely in your hand.

Waterpik Cordless Plus Water Flosser WP 450 is backed by a two-year warranty.

3.0 out of 5 stars A Solution to the "battery" problem. September 19, 2008
I have had two rechargable Waterpiks. Both had the same problem. After about 5 or 10 months the unit gradually loses the ability to charge up. Most users assume that the battery became defective.

I really need this thing so I decided to look into it and found that the battery in each case was fine. What happens is that the connector on the charging cable gradually deteriorates. This might be due to getting wet repeatedly combined with corrosion and deposits. The inside of the female part of the connector gets get eaten away and actually gets larger in diameter. The electrical connection deteriorates and finally becomes unusable. As a result the battery no longer gets recharged.

I found that the "AdaptaPlug" connector system available at Radio Shack has the same pin diameter and pin spacing. By whittling some plastic away I made a better connector from the Radio Shack parts and now the Waterpiks work like new.

The part numbers of the Radio Shack connectors needed are:
Male: 273-1742
Female: 273-1743

5.0 out of 5 stars I wonder about other reviews September 1, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
I was ambivalent about buying this based on the reviews that I have read. I will say up front I do not have a Waterpik that sits on my counter top and plugs into the wall socket. I had one once and will never own one again. You pull on the hose and the unit travels across the counter. No I found that I like the cordless ones better. I have own the Waterpik WP-360W. It was OK but the battery pretty much had to be charged every week if used daily. It held just enough water to get the job done, it was hard to fill with water under the bathroom sink and I got about 3 years use from it until the unit stop charging due to corrosion where the charger plugs into the unit(This is because water spills on the connection).

I then bought the Panasonic EW-1270AC. This was fine for travel but it had allot of problems like the water cap always falling off, water leaking out when you needed to store it in the suitcase(always had to keep it in a zip loc bag to prevent the remaining water that was always there even after emptying in sink), the tip always falling on the floor as the way it was to be stored should have held the tip better. Allot of germs on the floor. Plus the batteries were not rechargeable. So even after reading the reviews on the new Waterpik Cordless Dental Jet I bought one. For the life of me I could not understand why so many negative and mediocre reviews on this unit. But I figure it could not be that bad as it was the number one seller of cordless water jets. Here is a little contrast and compare on the reviews and my unit the WP-450 Ultra;

1. It is so loud it will wake anyone sleeping. Coffee grinder loud!
** Yes I guess it is loud as it is near you ear while using! But not that loud to me(i.e.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much improved over WP-360 December 2, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a bigger unit than the WP-360 and thus holds more water in the container. The real difference is in the battery. I can easily go over a week, using it twice a day, before charging whereas the WP-360 would never last a week. I have owned 4 WP-360s and each of them stopped holding a charge after abour 3-4 months. Let's hope they solved the problem with the WP-450. I have a feeling they did.

1.0 out of 5 stars Shame On Water Pik May 31, 2008
By jniles

I have had the earlier 360 twice and of course the batteries died on both before the year was out. I have never made a claim, too much trouble and who has time. That's something Water-Pik is banking (literally) on. I said in a review on the 360 earlier I was going to be stupid and try this one but it would be the last chance for Water-Pik. So I did and in an age where battery problems like these do not have to be the case Water Pik puts sorry battery technology again in this unit. They know it and it is not an accident, but a complete rip off. The Ultra lasted less than 4 months used twice daily. Great unit for pressures and portability. Get over the small reservoir it is a portable and 3 seconds to refill, so get a life. That is why they are portable. I will NEVER own another Water Pik product. There is no excuse to market this junk. It is not as if they are unaware of the problem and therefore they are DISHONEST to be sure.

My overdue update two and a half years later. In 2008 I purchased a Panasonic EW1270 without any reviews. It worked acceptably well but at half life of the alkaline AA batteries the power would began to fall off. After two years of using it I tried it with Sanyo Eneloop rechargable and would give it 6 Stars if I could. Almost no loss of power until the batteries are ready to quit. However the model Amazon is now carrying is the Panasonic Oral Irrigator EW-DJ10-A. It appears to be almost identical to my 1270 with a slightly different nozzel at the base. The very good reviews now available lead me to believe this is a newer model and with at least the same great performance of my 1270 unit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Performance, Smaller Reservior, Poor Value May 9, 2008
By TedO
Because of their inherent convenience and ease of use, I am a big fan of battery-powered oral irrigators and have had several of Waterpik's older WP-360W model. I also have a Panasonic EW1270AC which I reserve for travel because of it's tiny reservoir and compact size. Those WP-360s suffered from weak batteries and unreliable electronics so I went through several of them and was initially happy to see Waterpik introducing a new-improved, and more costly WP-450 "Ultra". Unfortunately, there is nothing improved about the WP-450 and it is merely an "Ultra-disappointment".

Pros:
-Some reviewers have observed better battery life, I was unable to confirm this.

Cons:
-Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360
-Poor Reservoir Capacity -only 120 ml or 20% less than the already-tiny WP-360's 150 ml
-Terrible portability, large/inefficient size, ungainly ergonomics
-Weak water stream.

In short, the Waterpik Ultra WP-450 is less (performance) for more (money). Two thumbs waaay down.
