If that is what you're looking for, this is a great one. It is waterproof and tear resistant..two great features if you plan on being rough with a map (which usually doesn't take much). Also has points of interest indexed on map (sights, food, bars, etc.) and a time...

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT plastic or waterproof!
It seems like a decent map, maybe even a very good map, but it is definitely not waterproof or plastic as advertised, and breaks easily like a regular map. It seems ok otherwise though and I am sure this is not a huge deal, but if you are looking for a truly plastic map, then go with the streewise one (I think that's what it's called...) As far as the the difference in...

All maps should be so well designed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Map of Rome, October 25, 2008
This review is from: Waterproof Map of Rome by Rough Guide Maps (Rough Guide Country/Region Map) (Map)
I have been in Rome now for almost four months with this map and it is simply fantastic. Not only does it include Rome's center with very good detail, its also has held up incredibly well, and has bus, train and tram routes. I've looked at all the other maps while I've been here but this map is simply the very best. If you are going to go to Rome, get one of these maps. The only potential drawback is that it does not have the outlying areas but most people traveling to Rome will not need a map with a larger area. It you need a broader area map with bus routs, then you can buy the ATAC map at a tourist info station for I think about 4 euros.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great map, November 21, 2005

At last - a map which is unfazed by sweaty pockets, being crumpled up in a tote bag, rain showers, or endless handling. We mauled this map all through hot sweaty Rome and it was perfect. Everything is on there. No, it is not a guide book! It's a map - and a really good one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate and Durable, January 15, 2008

Used the Rough Guide maps for Venice, Florence, and Rome and found them to be top notch. They have far more detail and accuracy than the maps handed out by hotels and local TI offices. The paper is coated so that it withstands serious abuse, fold, refold, stuff it in your pocket in a wad, it always comes out with all the print intact. The coating adds negligible bulk, more than worth it for the durability.

Rough Guides does it again! Beautiful cartography, quality product (it truly is durable and waterproof), accurate, and designed with eminent good sense.

I used the map extensively in Rome, and found on it not just clearly marked street names, but also every point of interest where I wanted to go. The map would guide me correctly to the exact location of each one. Most useful of all was that Rough Guides had the good sense to include major bus routes marked on the streets; without fail, I was able to take buses to all major destinations and, in one case, also to an obscure destination. Try finding another bus route map in Rome!

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Map of Rome, October 3, 2007

Rough Guide maps make other maps look like child drawings. Do not leave home without one. The extras, like the "time map" with all the opening hours of major museums and churches, in addition to just the quality of the map itself (everything being to scale, the nice color scheme, etc.), make this map perfect. The fact that it's indestructible (plastic) is an added bonus!

This was an excellent map of Rome. Like the other Rough Guide maps, it is extremely durable. After 4 days in Rome, it still looks brand new.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Rome Map, May 22, 2010

I ordered this map through Amazon.com and find it to be a wonderful tool for planning and navigating the city. Though we haven't left for Rome yet, this map is so perfect. Great identification of streets, sites, restaurants, shopping, etc. The tearproof and waterproof construction should stand up well to the punishment I plan on giving it.

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a map, February 20, 2011

I haven't left for my trip yet, so I can not comment on the accuracy of this map, but when I return I'll add more to this review.
My initial impression was that this map is flimsy, but I've been studying (opening and closing) it for the last several weeks and it remains in great condition. It feels like paper, but if it were paper I'm sure the creases would have started to tear by now.
This map is easy to read, although some of the print is very small for my 44 year old eyes to see clearly, so I plan on buying some reading glasses.
Not because of the map, but because I've been having trouble reading small print anyway. I can make out most of it, but who wants to hold a map 6 inches from your face?
This map is loaded with information. A street index, transport information, recommendations for shopping, eating, bars/cafes, venues, accommodations, and a time map which shows the opening and closing times for banks, post offices, sights, attractions and markets.
I have also purchased the Barcelona, Florence, and Venice maps made by Rough Guide and they have the exact same features.

UPDATE --- I'm back from my trip and I must say these maps are excellent. I can't tell you how many times I folded them (the wrong way) and crammed them into the pocket of my jeans. The maps never tore and I was able to fold them back to there original size and shape. They are big when they are fully opened, but what I did was fold them down to just the area I happened to be in and it made them very easy to use. Also, they may seem like paper, but there not. I was out in the rain with one of them and I spilled coffee on another and they did not disintegrate like paper would have.
As I said before, the print is small, so I ended up buying a cheap pair of magnifying glasses at Wal-Mart and they made this map very easy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't go to Rome without this map, November 11, 2010

I used this map many times a day, everyday, while I was in Rome for a week and I am totally hooked on Rough Guide maps now. It held up in the rain and through repeated folding and unfolding. It was great for finding bus and metro routes--a big deal when you are trying to save and not use taxis. Most of the sights we wanted to see were clearly marked on the map and the print was large enough to read (although larger print would be better since my eyesight isn't so great these days). Many times people stopped me to ask where they could get my map since it was so much better than what they were using--too bad they didn't do their research on amazon before leaving home. This map is a must for travel to Rome.
