5.0 out of 5 stars This music defies description.
I was at the Palisades Center Mall (in West Nyack, NY) one day when I heard this incredibly stirring music floating up from a lower level of the mall. It was so profoundly moving--what I would call hauntingly beautiful--that I had to find out what it was. 3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful in execution, but repetitive after awhile
I feel odd about this album. On the one hand the sweeping orchestrals and passionate flute is extremely beautiful and well done, but on the other... there's very little variety from song to song. There's some bits where the piano comes forth to have its say, or the melody line in a few certain places really catches me. But as a whole album, it's only doing one thing: lush...

I was at the Palisades Center Mall (in West Nyack, NY) one day when I heard this incredibly stirring music floating up from a lower level of the mall. It was so profoundly moving--what I would call hauntingly beautiful--that I had to find out what it was. I took my two boys (sidetracking them from their quest to get Daddy into the toy store!) and we went on a "hunt" to locate the source of the music. It turned out that three musicians were performing live selections from "Water's Edge." I was instantly hooked. I bought the album on the spot, and I have listened to it repeatedly ever since.

Tim Janis has succeeded in composing music on this album that will strike a chord deep within your being. You can hardly describe the effect--it must simply be felt and experienced. It would be an injustice to attempt to capture with words the various musical moods of this album. You will positively be thankful for having added this work to your music library.

I am a high school teacher, and I occasionally play this album for my students (while they're taking tests), and they unanimously agree that the music is beautiful and soothing. In fact, they actually *request* it. Coming from a bunch of adolescents who spend most of their time listening to rap, hip-hop, and other current musical trends, their positive appraisal of Janis' music speaks volumes, and it is testimony to the powerful effect it has on the human psyche.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dedicated fan from the Big Apple!, June 23, 2000

I have enjoyed all of Tim's prior CD's, believing each CD to be better than the prior CD. He has reinforced this belief with Water's Edge. Being from Maine and having grown up near the lakes and shores of Maine, I sat back in my easy chair, listened to this absolutely harmonious CD, and relived many memories of time along the water's edge. Tim is a truly gifted artist, whose music is so soothing and relaxing. I recommend this CD, and Tim's other CD's as well, for any person looking for truly melodic, soothing, and insigthful music.

I first heard Tim Janis' music on internet radio. Just ordered and received the CD "The Water's Edge"... I really can't put into words the feeling when you hear this music... one piece "Star Island" must be one of the most beautiful ever written! His music is beyond uplifting, relaxing, heartfelt... it touches the soul.. just sit and LISTEN..

Happened to be In maine at The Nubble Light and some group was setting up for a concert. We waited and then they started to play they were up as close as they could be to the water. It was magnificent. Asked some people who it was and they said Tim Janis. They were selling the CD's there and I bought one. It gave you such a feeling with the water rolling in and the music I thought I died and went to heaven. He is amazing and is as nice as can be. I would highly recommend his music to anyone young or old. It will relax you like you wouldn't believe. The one I am buying is for my nephew for Christmas he heard it while visiting me from Florida and liked it equally as well.

I just happened to run across this album and decided to give Mr. Janis a try to see how I like his music. Let me tell you, I LOVED it and will be on a quest to obtain all of his music catalog!

The music in this cd sweeps the viewer into a totally different place. It has movement, feeling and motion that swifty will take you to a place of relaxation, meditation and beyond. It has an eccletic feel to it and if you like instrumental music to the celtic sound/feeling then this cd would be for you!

In my opinion, Tim Janis can carry the music appreciator to places that even John Tesh can take you. If you liked the sweeping music of Michael W. Smith's "Freedom" album...you will DEFINATELY like this music offering. This cd is so amazing, there really isn't another musician that I would attempt to compare it to, outside of the "Freedom" compliation.

A MUST for those who like the instrumentals, for those who need music for relaxation and/or meditation and even for those who use Music for pain management.

TRY IT, YOU'LL LOVE IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars An epic journey composed in music, May 8, 2001
This review is from: Water's Edge (Audio CD)
What an inspiring, emotional journey! This music just sweeps the listener away into a place far from where they are at. And a better place for sure! Every track evokes emotions that anyone can relate to and some even made me cry from the sheer beauty of the melody. This is a lovely cd to listen to while working, cleaning, or just relaxing. It is so easy to imagine sitting along the rugged Maine coast and appreciating all that God has put before us. Truly an amazing effort and worth every penny spent!

Sweeping melodies that invoke mental images of vast ocean fronts with crashing waves. Absolutely stunning! Tunes that put you in mind of schooners smashing through waves and then go to heart wrenching harmonies that invoke broad vistas and endless oceans. If I wasn't already in love with the ocean I would be after listening to this music. A true life saver in the middle of winter! I can't image a more stunning collection of music anywhere.

I'm hooked!

I recently bought Tim Janis's latest cd, A Thousand Summers, and was so affected by the music that I had to buy this one. He is an extraordinary musician with an unbounded talent. His compositions and arrangements are beyond beautiful. I will put this cd on and play it,then play it again:over and over, never tiring of it. This album is both relaxing and inspirational. I feel so moved as I listen and marvel that one can compose such music that never becomes tiring, but can inspire you to keep listening. I would recommend this to anyone;it is so wonderful.
