Mi Ami is a new band started by two ex-members of Black Eyes. Black Eyes is one of my all time favorite bands, and Mi Ami has become my favorite band so far this year. Mi Ami continues in a freer direction into no wave and free jazz with a dub influence over the rhythmic cacophony that Black Eyes went into. Mi Ami is not covering tired ground here, Mi Ami stays fresh and exciting. For all the noise, experimentation, and the intensity Mi Ami stays in the groove really well. There is a a lot of reverb on the vocals and drums, while you have a nice jangly guitar that dives into feed back loops on a lot of the songs. The vocals are yelped and screamed while they float on top of this really groove oriented punk. I love tracks 1. Echononecho, 3. New guitar, 4. Pressure the most. If you get a chance to see this band live, do not pass it up. They are amazing live.
