An Exceptional Collaboration,
By Theseus "theseus" (US of A) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Waterton: Brush and Pen (Hardcover)
Not big and bulky and pretentious enough to be a coffee table book, this is, nonetheless, a bit more than an art book. Thanks to a beautiful and expressive combination of images and text, Laycock and Stenson have created an homage to a place "where prairie meets mountain and lake mirrors sky."
I have the utmost regard for the work of this watercolorist: he's a loose and expressive painter with a bold palette that reminds me a big of Fauvism. Yet underlying his free hand is a sturdy and deeply known understanding of the "anatomy" of trees, mountains, and water. A very nice piece of work from publisher Fifth House: cloth over hardback boards with a sewn binding, 129 pp. An oblong book on heavy paper, with color illustrations on almost every page. |
