5.0 out of 5 stars Druggie Fresh!, October 7, 2004

A contender for 2004 hip-hop album of the year (see also Kanye West and Madvillain). Hard core beats and horror core lyrics are back. Eminem's nemesis, Cage (Weathermen) and Tame One (Artifacts) are a better pairing than Cocoa Brovas. Add production by Def Jux all-stars El-P, RJD2 and Camu Tao and you have an instant classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars The drugs are working, October 7, 2004

Concept albums are always risky and rarely work but after hearing Masta Ace's beautiful Long Hot Summer, 2004 might be the year that Hip-Hop finally gets it right. This is another great concept album. It never sounds forced, its almost as though the fact that all the songs are drug related is a complete coincidence. However the tracks all fit together to create a dark yet playful album that you need to listen to from start to end to fully appreciate.

The two "brothers" work well together even though they have different styles. Tame One is more your classic rapper MC (bar the subject matter of his rhymes) relying on a strong voice and an effortless delivery that is reminiscent of Kool G Rap at times. Cage is the crazy one, he's a shock core rapper who uses his ability to create dark/outlandish imagery to grab your attention.

The production on the album is excellent. The Leak Brothers enlisted an all star team of producers to lace them with the perfect soundtrack for their Waterworld ride. J-Zone, RJD2, Mighty Mi and Camu Tao are all in top form on this album. My bad for ever doubting that Mighty Mi and Camu Tao would be able to hang with the rest of this allstar cast. Needless to say, they hold it down beautifully.

With a running time of only 42 minutes you best believe there is no space for fillers. Even Tame One's interpretation of "Lodi Dodi" which has a less than inspiring beat is made excellent by his crazy lyrics. Standout tracks however are the title track, Delerium and the depressingly dark Dead.

With great beats, excellent MCing and a concept that holds the whole album together Waterworld is a definite contender for Indie album of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars DUSTED MUSIC, August 9, 2004

I was a little skeptical when I first heard about this project a few months ago, I mean an entire album dedicated to one of the most f**ked up drugs on the planet??? How can Tame and Cage pull that off??? Well fortunately they managed to put an amazing album together. You got the likes of El-P, J-Zone, Rjd2,and Camu Tao on the boards, and thankfully not a barage of unnecesary guest appearances, just Tame and Cage flipping mind numbing lyrics on one of their favorite subjects, leaky leak. If substance abuse is offensive, or disturbing to you than steer clear, PCP is pretty much all that your going to hear about on this album, but if thats the type of s**t you find humorous like me, then pick this up ASAP, i'm not the biggest Cage fan, but he rips every verse on this joint, Tame One of course drops tons of memorable flows here as well, so grab a jar, dip your newports, and bug out to some fresh hip hop.

5.0 out of 5 stars tight and f*cked up just like i like it, March 23, 2006

this album is amazing in every way. I am by no means endorsing the use of pcp but these guys did an amazing job at describing it, but thats not even the point. This is a unique masterfully crafted album. The productions are well blended between the abstract sound you would expect from def jux producers with the more traditional hip hop sounds, and the lyrics paint a vivid portrait. I almost went into a sherm trip jus listenin. "the son of a senator died today he put too much on the blunt, found him leakin on the floor with liquid in his lungs, im stuck with these lines to say why bring a son or a daughter into a planet your payin to drink the water from" thats just ill, right?

4.0 out of 5 stars Leakleakleeeak brothers., October 2, 2004
This review is from: Water World (Audio CD)
"I got a monkey on my back with 2 gats, bi-polar, and a headless angel laying dead on my shoulder."

Let me say that the only material I've heard from Cage was on "movies for the blind" and "weather proof", but Im about this " " close to placing this album at the top of that list. I don't know what it is about "waterworld", it just completly absorbs me. Some of the lyrics are the most bizaree I've ever heard. Both mcs are on point during the whole trip and compliment each other damn well.

Ashbare Rating: 3.5/5.0

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just for dust heads, October 14, 2004
This review is from: Water World (Audio CD)
When I heard that Cage and Tame One of Eastern Conference were getting together to make an album entirely about angel dust, i was a little skeptical. Despite the singular topic matter, the album is diverse; 100% cracked out rhymes by both Cage and Tame who have stepped up lyrically from their previous releases. The beats come from a variety of big underground names: Mighty Mi, J-Zone, Camu Tao, RJD2, El-P and others, each providing a different soundscape for the leak bros. demented lyrics. My favorite cut would have to be RJD2s cinematic "Gimme Some Death". The only cuts I didn't like was J-Zones as it sounded too much like one of the beats he gave Akinyele and El-Ps. The only guest is Yak Ballz on the hook of the first song. If you are a fan of the Definitive Jux or Eastern Conference rappers, or of rappers in the horrorcore genre, check out this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Leak bros make a splash!!!, February 2, 2005
This review is from: Water World (Audio CD)
I have to admit that when i first heard Tame1 was linking up with Cage for a "leak bros" album my first thought was "why doesnt Tame hook up with Copywrite instead+give us a str8 forward battle album of bibilical proportions??!!" Not because of the subject matter but purely cuz i aint feeling Cage at all. But credit where its due, BOTH mc's are on fire on this project. The album is amazing, to put it mildly. The only fault with it is the fact its so short, the only weak track in my opinion is "stargate" (cage's solo joint). Apart from that its damn near perfect. The beats are all dark with thumping baselines, eerie samples+completely off the wall lyrics that never fail to grab you from start to finish. Personally im dying for part 2 already+chances are i'll still be pounding this until that appears. Dive in....the "water(world)" is just fine!!!

This album is amazing. All the songs are great. Super dark and grungy, but the raps are fresh, and the beats are killer. If you like cage at all you should pick this up, one of my personal favorites. Tame One is also an outstanding rapper.
