Great dry skin remedy,
By
This review is from: Watkins Petro-Carbo Salve - 4.6 oz (Health and Beauty)
When I was younger, I got large cracks in my feet from walking barefoot constantly during the summer. We had a dilapidated old tin of Watkins Petro Carbo Salve from long previous to me. My great-grandfather was a Watkins salesman, and as such we nicknamed the product "Grandpa's Salve". To this day, I've found nothing better. I've tried expensive products, cheap products, of which one has come distantly close (does that even make sense?) - a wax/oil concoction called Badger. Still, no cigar. I was surprised to find "Grandpa's Salve" still produced, and since I consider it rare, I ordered two tins - enough to last for years.

Great overnight healing,

I have been using this salve for years. When the skin on my fingers splits from dryness, or when I have a small cut, I use a little at bedtime and 95% of the time, by morning, the nuisance is gone! The other 5% of the time it is gone by the next day. It is also very good for dry skin or when working in the yard and your fingers get tore up. I even use it after laying cement to soothe the skin. There is nothing like it in the stores - I have tried!

cracked dry feet,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Watkins Petro-Carbo Salve - 4.6 oz (Health and Beauty)
I've had problems with my feet for over two years. I often showed my condition to a neighbor of mine whos occupation is a nurse. She also was looking for something to soften her heels. She bought a container of Petro-Carbo Salve and shared half the container with me. After buying prescription medicines worth $100.00 a tube I became frustrated and nothing was working. I had cracks on my heels, under my toes, on the sides of my feet and on the soft pads. It was impossible to walk my dog or wear dress shoes. I lived in hiker boots for two years. Looks great with a suit. I started using Petro-Carbo Salve both morning and night and with in a week felt the the moisture returning to my feet. In order to keep the cracks together I was using bandaids when I discovered duck tape that's when the healing started. The tape kept the sauve on and as I removed the tape at night a layer of the dry skin would come off on the tape. I've used the product for over a year, my condition is almost cleared and I'm enjoying wearing dress sandals and shoes once again. Thanks for a wonderful product I recommend it to any one suffering from cracked heels.
Have a great day and happy feet to all...... Sandra :0)

THIS IS THE STUFF,

FUNGUS INFECTIONS. DRY SKIN. DAMAGED SKIN. RIFLE GREASE. YOU CAN'T GET CARBOLATED VASELINE ANY MORE. ANOTHER VICTIM OF WAL-MART I GUESS. BUT YOU CAN GET THIS WONDERFUL PRODUCT! I HAVE THREE CANS NOW. GET IT. YOU WILL LIKE IT. IT'S CHEAPER THAN OTHER PRODUCTS THAT DON'T WORK.
AS FOR THE RIFLE GREASE; I HAD A JAR OF CARBOLATED VASELINE WITH ME IN VIET-NAM. I USED IT BETWEEN MY TOES AND I PUT SOME ON THE CHARGING HANDLE OF MY M-14! PETRO CARBO IS SAME SAME. STOPS JUNGLE ROT TOO...

I have used this item for years! My parents have used this item for years! And my GRANDparents used this item for years on the farm! It is not only good for humans, but we and generations before have used it on dogs, cats and cattle.
Growing up as a child I remember my grandma referrinng to it as "axle grease". It is wonderful stuff for keeping infections down in sores, cuts, burns. I use it for all sorts of stuff. While the smell is not the greatest, knowing that it can do the job required, you can get past that. One of these cans will last forever. "Only a little dab will do you" as someone once said.

Dig for Splinters NO More,

This is the only drawing salve I use. I have had it pull out all kinds of splinters (wood, metal, glass...) and wound crud over the years. Cover the splinter entry area with some salve and a bandaid. Remove bandaid in half an hour to an hour (you might need longer for deep splinters) and you'll be good. It's also excellent on burns.

My daughter has athlete's foot. Somehow this had spread to her knuckle on her hand. I apologize if this grosses anyone out. My grandmother saw the sore on her hand, and made her put some watkins salve on it. My daughter showed me her hand 2 days later, and I cannot believe how much it has healed in so little time. I had her put some anti-fungal creme on it in the past, but it didn't work. And that very well may be because she wasn't diligent in applying it as she should. But this just shows again, how well the petro carbo works. I'm buying my own now so I don't have to borrow grandma's anymore. 1 other thing. My grandma has had this tin of salve for many many many years. We used it last week.

I always liked Petro-Carbo salve. It is great for healing cuts and scrapes. Unfortunately it is not effective on eczema. I tried it on an eczema rash, but it only made it a bit red.
This is a great product....but not the right treatment for eczema.

Finally Found it!,

My wife and I have been nursing our last jar of Petro-Carbo salve for years thinking it was no longer available. So glad to have found it again at Watkins. This stuff puts Neomycin/Neosporin to shame. The fact that the patent ran out on this stuff about 5 generations ago and yet gets 100% five stars everywhere its rated speaks volumes. My mom used this ever since I can remember and I'm 61.

I love petro carbo salve. My grandmother used it and my mother grew up using it. In fact she still has the white and red tin. It still has some in it. I'm moving out on my own for college and I just had to get my own tin. I use it on ingrown hair. Put some on put on a badage leave on all day and the ingrown hair pops right up. If it doesn't repeat the next day. Garanteed.
