5.0 out of 5 stars scary but true, July 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
I lived in watseka for many years. The houses in the book are haunted by the people in the book.I know first hand about the hauntings. The house that I lived in was build on the foundation of the house that was burned in the book. I also knew the people who lived in the other two houses and been in the other two houses in the book. All the houses are still haunted to this day. The house I lived in you could hear glass braking. Door knobs would move and nobody was there. People going up and down the stairs. Many, many other things. In one of the other houses doors open and close. Everyone could be out back and you could come to the front door and knock and someone would tell you to come in. But no one would be in the house. So when you read this book remeber it is true. I lived in that town and my family and I know first hand how true this book is..

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary in every way, June 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
I live about six miles from Independence Indiana, where the story begins. My wife (departed) grew up in a town just south of Watseka and was very familiar with the story of Mary Roff. She gave me the book in 1982. I believe the story to be true.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lost, but not forgotten, December 2, 2003
This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
I read this book many years ago. My dad(deceased) had this book. I read it at least 3 or 4 times and then it was passed to someone else in the family and after the years it got lost. Would love to find it again. It was a wonderful account of the supernatural. It had my full attention from the very start and held it all the way through. I have never been to Watseka, but I do believe in what the book and author told. Wonderful read and would suggest it to anyone interested in the supernatural.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a very heart warming story., August 16, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
I have read this book several times over the years, and have just started it again. I have a copy of "THE WATSEKA WONDER" by E. W. Stevens M.D.copyright date 1908. Austin Publishing Company, and reprinted in 1982. This book is hard to read due to the print, but it is the facts on what happened to these two girls. The Watseka book is colored up a bit, but the story is a true one. I would recommend this book to anyone who does belive things do happen that we don't understand.

I have heard stories about this book and finally got it yesterday. I read it form cover to cover in one day and learned alot. I enjoyed the book. It was great. I learned that Mary and Rancy were torcharded soles and very misunderstood. I will keep this book and would recomend it anyone. It was a well written interesting part of our history. It might even change the way you look at Death.

Having been born and raised in the town of Watseka, it's a must you read this book. It captures the real life happenings of 2 girls. I enjoyed this book at the age of 12 and love it ever since. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and moving, June 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
I have read this book many times and was astounded at the story the Author had to tell. I was very sad when the book came to an end. I often wonder what became of the people in the families involved. I would love to gain more information on this particular subject.

This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
Considering I live two blocks west of the Roth house (which is still standing), the story touched home, litterally. I loved it and have read it more than once! Try it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, scary stuff!, January 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
Having grown up in Watseka, IL, stories of Mary Roth enveloped the town. Most of the stories have been fabricated over the years so I am grateful to St.Clair for depicting the stories. Although he has spiffed it up a bit, the main story still exists.

4.0 out of 5 stars First Book I Remember Reading, January 25, 2012
This review is from: Watseka: America's most extraordinary case of possession and exorcism (Hardcover)
Okay, it may not be fair to give a review, but here I go. I was just sitting here trying to remember one of the first books I read for fun. Not the books that made a life impression on me, you know, like the Catchers in The Ryes and Walden's, but a real, fun, "oh my gosh I can't wait to read this novel tonight" and this book came to mind. So good to see it still has the same cover. But this book left an impression on me, was creepily wonderfuly and suspenseful and I gobbled it up. Good stuff.
