5.0 out of 5 stars Great Voltage Converter
I disagree with the prior reviews. I moved from the U.S. (110 volts) to Thailand (220 volts) about four years ago. I purchased three of these converters for use with my Waterpik, Sonicare and others electronic devices (all under 50 watts).

These voltage converters have been in use during the last four years, and have all worked perfectly.

3.0 out of 5 stars decent, but not for continuous use at all ie--laptop charging, tv, etc, September 18, 2010
This review is from: 50 Watt SIMRAN SM 250R - Step Down Foreign Travel Voltage Power Converter (Electronics)
I bought a brother product to this one that is about 95% or more exactly the same. My model was called Seven Star 50 watt deluxe converter. It's very small, and that's nice, but it can accompany an american plug with three prongs (instead of just the two main ones). Most importantly though, it's not for continous use and most people don't know this. Ie- not meant to charge a laptop or netbook for 1-2 hrs or more, nor for plugging in a television, stereo system, radio that normally plugged in all the time. My friend used it recently (19Sept10) for his laptop and after 15-20 minutes it started to smell like something was starting to burn, he disconnected, let it coll 45-60 minutes then plugged it in to recharge laptop more. After 12-15 minutes, there was a small pop and turns out the converter burned itself out. Lesson --- this is for things like electric shaver, quick hair drying session, curling iron, etc, but not for more continous use at all. Check for much better models if needing something for continous use or maybe call the custer service of the product(s) you plan to take to europe. Hope this was helpful!

I'm using it to plug in a USA cordless phone in South America and it works fine. It doesn't get hot and I leave it plugged in all the time.

It will not fit into any standard wall receptacle or extension cord in Germany ... the SIMRAN engineering team failed to know german standards!
