4.0 out of 5 stars peace of mind
I drink about a gallon of NYC tap water per day. I'm very water savvy as I keep water sensitive fish and plants. I found this test kit to be a good all in one solution. This is by no means an accurate test to give exact measurements - think of it more as a pass/fail test kit. so if something fails, you may need to test it further with a more accurate test specific kit,...

Definitely not a good test. I know that I have slightly higher than normal levels of chlorine in my water because of the significant odor and extreme dryness my wife and I experience if we don't use a filter. This test didn't pick that up at all. It comes with two tests for each substance, the first of which I used as my real water test. Then I purposely hit the second...

I drink about a gallon of NYC tap water per day. I'm very water savvy as I keep water sensitive fish and plants. I found this test kit to be a good all in one solution. This is by no means an accurate test to give exact measurements - think of it more as a pass/fail test kit. so if something fails, you may need to test it further with a more accurate test specific kit, or at least know to buy a filter for that issue, but for most people the wider milestones of this kit should be fine. I found the Lead and Pesticide kit instructions to be confusing, but after rereading it a few more times I figured it out. it's good to have an 8oz glass handy to carry out most of these tests accurately. in the end, this kit paid for itself, as I now see my only water concern remain with the city added chlorine, chloride and chloramines(not tested here). this means I can now focus on only those media feature issues when choosing a water filtration system. I was impressed this kit has "good till use date" stamped on every one of the 15 different tests - you rarely see that. This is a good value since sending your water sample out to be more accurately tested by a Lab can be a $100-$300 expense.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice overall test for homeowner, June 11, 2011

Purchased May 2011 and most of the kits expired Jan 2014 so everything was valid (a issue I saw on some of the other kits) but everything was do at home. I saw a bunch of stuff at home depot but it was just take a sample and ship it somewhere. You have to follow the instructions fairly carefully, especially for the lead test. The cloroform test took 24-48 hours to allow it to grow for the indicator. However, please realize that cloroform is not specifically e.coli so even if it indicates something, that could non-harmful ... it's just an indicator that you 'may' have bacteria of some form.

Definitely not a good test. I know that I have slightly higher than normal levels of chlorine in my water because of the significant odor and extreme dryness my wife and I experience if we don't use a filter. This test didn't pick that up at all. It comes with two tests for each substance, the first of which I used as my real water test. Then I purposely hit the second set with purposely diluted versions of what they were meant to test for, just to see if they worked at all. NOPE! I had to dip the chlorine test in a bottle of pool chlorine to get it to react. Spend the extra cash and get a professional to test your water for you.

This is a must for anyone who lives in a city! So easy to use. I failed chemistry but had no trouble using these babies. It's a good thing too because you never know what kind of crap is in your drinking water these days. Do your family and or yourself a favor and find out where you stand.

I ordered this product to test our city water. I wanted to specifically know what was in it. Also, wanted to know how much fluoride was in the water. I purchased this kit because when I put in the word 'fluoride', this test came up. I assumed there was a test for fluoride in it along with the other tests. When it came, there was no test for fluoride. I had to specifically order another test for fluoride. It would be good to make sure this test does not come up when the word 'fluoride' is typed in the box(what are you looking for?). Other than that it was pretty straight forward, for someone with a biological or medical background(I have a degree in Biology). It should be put into normal words for people who don't understand medical/biological terms.
