A Star-Studded Affair, August 29, 2002
This review is from: Wave: Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook (Audio CD)
This is a wonderful album for fans of both bossa nova and straight-up jazz. Wonderful renditions of many of A.C.Jobim's most beautiful songs, with Jobim himself popping up on a few tracks.
If I were to list every brilliant track on the album, I'd honestly just be listing the entire track list. From Getz' lyrical "Corcovado", to Diz's clever "One Note Samba", to Sarah Vaughan's playful "Boy From Ipanema"--all classic, wonderful songs by some of the most famous jazz artists of all time. Although I had heard most of these songs elsewhere, it was wonderful to hear Oscar Peterson's "Triste". The song begins with a trademark Peterson off-beat intro in unison, then quickly settling into an amazing groove.
The bottom line? A great and varied selection, encompassing a wide variety of moods, emotions, styles, tempos, and musicians! Pick up a copy soon!
Also HIGHLY recommended: the Getz/Gilberto album, and "Jazz Samba" with Getz/Charlie Byrd. Both are some of the most (deservedly) classic jazz albums you can find.

Excellent Companion Piece, August 9, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Wave: Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook (Audio CD)
This is a companion piece CD to The Girl From Ipanema: The Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook. I believe, that is. It is a very nice CD but as the previous writer stated, it more than anything points out the brilliance of Jobim's songwriting. The tracks selection is excellent and the perfomers are great. Hearing Elis Regina's voice in all of her feautred songs makes you wish she could still share that magical voice with you. Great CD. Pick it up to go along with the other one.

Great artists play Jobim, July 6, 2000
This review is from: Wave: Antonio Carlos Jobim Songbook (Audio CD)
This was my first introduction to Brazilian music, notably because of the recognizable artists playing Jobim like Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie and Oscar Peterson(to name a few). However, what struck me the most was the great songwriting talents of Jobim and the understated, yet passionate vocals of Elis Regina. Hearing Elis sing 'Wave' is simply beautiful, and listening to 'Corcavado' transported me to another world. This is simply a great CD.
