Interesting even if not totally original,

This album was an interesting surprise. Bozzio's voice is in fine form, still with the trademark squeak yet just a hint of age and maturity. She offers some fun, energetic takes on a handful of 80s classics. While a good time to listen to, she rarely does anything totally original with the arrangements, sticking closely to their original form. She does fine with them, but that's the reason for the one-star deduction: nothing terribly new to it all.The one notable exception to my complaint is "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Bozzio offers a unique, slower and more atmospheric reading of the Cyndi Lauper staple. Very, very nice. I would've liked to hear some new original music from Bozzio instead of a brief collection of 80s covers and two unnecessary remixes. But, as stated, a fun ride nonetheless. With only 9 songs (two of which appear in two different versions), save yourself a few bucks and buy it used.

I am so grateful to Dale for putting something new out there! My only complaint: this album is just too brief. I am a big fan so of course I am greedy. I want more, more, more! Dale's unique vocal style that sent her to the forefront of the New Wave scene can be heard once again on the 5 new cover songs we are presented with here. All are fun classics, now with her special brand on them. (I can't get enough of her strange N.E. accent or her squeaky hiccups!) Her band sounds great too. I saw her a few years ago and they put on a killer show. Hopefully there is much more to come from Dale as she is off to a great start! I am curious why the two earlier covers she did for Cleopatra Records weren't included (Prince's I Would Die 4 U and Madonna's Get Into The Groove). Instead, a re-recording of Words and Destination Unknown, which although good as they sound, not exactly re-invented enough to explain why they are here. (Still, I am grateful to have them). But then 2 remixes from a previous remix album of Missing Persons songs are thrown on at the end... huh??? Alright, whatever. I think Dale deserves more respect than she seems to get. Maybe there will be a more ambitious attempt to showcase her talent next time around. Anyway, it's a fun record that is way overdue!

!! SHES BACK !!,

What a great surprise this new album was, Dale is in fine form and her voice is strong in delivering 5 of her favorite 80s classic songs. Missing Persons 2 biggest hits begin the album (I can listen to Words for days on end) and her trademark accent and squeak is all over the place and she more than makes these classic songs her own. The inclusion of 2 Missing Persons songs to close the album is somewhat puzzling; Cleopatra could have easily included Dales versions of 'Into the groove' and 'I would die 4 u' (without a doubt Dales FINEST recording to date) to make it a COMPLETE album and it will forever remain a mystery why they didnt. Longtime and dedicated fans are still waiting for new material from Dale as well ..until then this album will suffice quite nicely in anticipation of things to come ..

Love the vinyl presentation...,

Ms. Bozzio chose her '80s hits covers well, as each seems ideally suited to her vocal style and range. 'Der Kommissar' and 'Turning Japanese' are stand-outs, as Dale's wry delivery suits each track perfectly.I downloaded the entire collection of tracks, but also purchased the limited edition vinyl (300-copies only)... Gleaming white vinyl, which is incredibly striking, and set with a silver and purple picture label. Well done. Packaged for collectors, not in a seamed, card stock sleeve, but in a plastic sleeve in which the 'cover' sits with the vinyl and, ostensibly, ready-for-framing. Nothing original, as other reviewers have pointed out -- and I will second that there was no need to lay down new vocals for 'Destination Unknown' or 'Words.' The originals are perfect as are... But, as a vinyl collector, I do enjoy the inclusion of TV Mania's 'Destination' remix, as well as Technova's mix of 'Walking in L.A.' (wish it had been the Cypress Hill version, but oh well... Overall, a wonderful collectible for Bozzio or Missing Persons fans.

This is a very good album of music by Dale Bozzio. All the songs are good and done well. She has a backing band that knows what they'e doing. Der Commisar, I Know What Boys Want, and Walking in La are my favorites. She picked cool songs that I like from the 80's to cover. My only criticism is that we didn't get to hear any new music here, or any radical new interpretaions on the covers or her hits. So quality new wave music and if you like Dale Bozzio's voice this should be a very worthwhile CD for you.

Delicious Dale delights,

This ex-model and Frank Zappa-protegé played the role of intelligent sex-symbol several years before Madonna, and did it with class, style and wit. She also wrote some clever lyrics when she fronted the adventurous and grossly under rated Missing Persons. And no doubt she has been a role-model for Gwen Stefanie a.m.o..Unfortunately this isn't 'the great comeback' one could have hoped for. All we get is 5 reworkings of classic Missing Person tracks, combined with covers of songs like "Turning Japanese" and Falco's "Der Kommisar", fine and fun songs, but.... Dale is definitely still Dale and the backing band more than competent. But compared with other recent cover-albums like Patti Smith's "Twelve" or Ann Wilson's "Hope and Glory" this falls somewhat flat. Still it's great to have this new wave-goddess back. And let's hope she can get her career on tracks again, so she can delight us with some new, original material soon. The talent to come up with something worthwhile is certainly there!
