This review is from: Wave (Audio CD)
It's true that America is the birthplace of jazz, yet it becomes astounding once you realize how far the love and dedication to the genre has stretched across the globe, and Japan is one of the places where it continues to thrive with a robust audience and a wealth of talented musicians. T-Square is a jazz fusion outfit that's been around since 1978 and continues to produce albums to this day, with their 2011 release ready to hit the shelves in late April. "Wave" is their 1989 album containing some unbelievably awesome fusion hits. Seriously, I love this album to death, with "Big City" being my #2 T-Square track ever. Masahiro Andoh does wonders with his guitar in this release, along with the rest of the gang. Sutoh and Noritake's "Dooba Wooba" is a welcome bass & drum duo track which wakes you right up, and the EWI tracks of "Arcadia", "Morning Star" and "Your Christmas" are great reminders that synth instruments in the hands of great musicians never EVER lets you down. "Rachael", the last track composed by Hirotaka Izumi, is an epic and dramatic closing track that sends your mind to the drama that is city life in Japan (well, at least for me :P). And Itoh? The man's cool alto sax vibes never let up, I guarantee you. For those of you who want to experience some greatness from T-Square, this is one album not to miss. Please support these guys, because they seriously need WAY more exposure here in the States. Cheers!!
